Puzzle winner also into macrame
Marvell Recivcar figured out tough clues like "German region," "unsatisfiable" and "English novelist" to win this week's Times/Guide crossword puzzle competition. Her answers — anhalt, insatiate and sterne — helped net Marvell the $25 prize. Marvell, of 7101 SW 59th St., is a native Dade Countian and is married to a National Airlines electrician, Ronald. They have three children, Marvell, 7, Ronald, 5 and Christine, 2. Marvell finds that she often works crossword puzzles while watching Ms. Recivcar television with the children. The prize-winning puzzle did offer a few challenges, she said. "I did most of it, but there were a few things left over that I had to look up to be sure . . . I had an idea of what they were, but I couldn't be positive." Macrame is Marvell's other hobby; she makes necklaces with different stones for decoration. "I keep putting off getting into other things," she said, smiling at her three active kids. "I guess they keep me pretty busy."
Book covers are free
Bicentennial book covers will be disturbed free of charge at all Westchester Shopping Center stores Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 2-4, while supplies last. Because of the demand for the protective jackets, the limit will be five per person. The book jackets are red, white and blue and are designed with a patriotic theme.
