Contrasting rooms create atmosphere
From Page 14 with pale rose and green flowers and two brocade covered chairs. The fabric used on the chairs is from Italy and blends perfectly with the delicate hues of the rug. A long brocade sofa and a grand piano complete the room, which is a step down from the entry way The dining room is cordoned off with white, wrought iron railing. Nancy remembers the history of each antique and laughs when she tells about one small, white table with curved French legs. "This was an old manicure table," she said. "I got it in a barber shop and refinished it. The barber gave it to me in exchange for a bottle of brandy." The entry into the house and the living room includes a large mirror framed with small mirrored panels. The mirror was originally too tall for the wall, so the Greenberg's removed part of its frame. The fragment, a decorative piece of metal sculpture, hangs in their bedroom. More antiques, including a second brass chandelier, accent the dining room where the pale colors of the living room have been picked up in tiny porcelain roses arranged in a bowl of dried babys' breath flowers. The white walls of the hallway leading to the bedrooms are Nancy's "mini-art gallery." More than 25 paintings, from large to tiny, fill the walls. The smallest of the four bedrooms has been converted into a studio, where Nancy has her easel, drawing board, files of paper, paints, glue and other paraphernalia. The clutter is organized but obviously busy. And although she dreams of a large, airy studio, she admits, "At least in here everything is close at hand." The master bedroom next to the studio is furnished in soft lilac, with a pale lavender rug and a quilted bedspread with a white background and blue and lilac flowers. The room also affords a view of the patio and pool and has a reading nook with a comfortable armchair and a small, round table oovered with a lace-topped lavender linen cloth. The two bedrooms across the hall belong to the Greenberg's sons, Glenn, 18, and Adam, 13. Glenn's room is a model of organization. Its blue rug is picked up by a blue and green afghan covering the bed. One full wall is taken up with a wooden shelf and drawer unit with neatly arranged books and a small television tucked under one shelf. Three Nancy Greenberg watercolors, painted at her son's request to carry out his blue and green color scheme, hang by the bed. A mirror, framed with a blue ship's wheel, is near the door. Glenn, who will be a freshman at the University of Florida this fall, is about to lose his resplendent bedroom, however. His brother Adam has plans to move into Glenn's larger room as soon as college starts. "We don't really try to create a particular mood in our house," Nancy explained. "We created the house for ourselves. It's full of things we enjoyed bringing together. It's for us."
Brocade sofa, tastefully paired with throw pillows, goes well with the antique coffee table set before it in the formal living room.
