all about people Gables physician inducted into Orthopedic Surgeons

Dr. Harlan S. Chiron of Coral Gables was inducted Feb. 4 as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons at the group's 44th annual meeting in Las Vegas. Dr. Chiron was one of 611 Fellows installed in ceremonies held in the Convention Center Rotunda. The inductions boosted the Academy membership to 7,783. It is the nation's largest medical organization for specialists in bone and joint surgery. To be eligible, all fellows must have passed the certifying examination of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Board election Longtime South Dade resident Fairfield (Pat) Rock has been elected by shareholders to the Board of Directors of the Barnett Bank of Homestead. A retired lieutenant colonel with a distinguished military career, Rock is best known locally for his 10 years of service as executive secretary and treasurer of the Redland Citizens Association. Col. and Mrs. Rock are members of the Redland Country Club, Community Concerts Association and St. John's Episcopal Church. The couple, who live on 239th Street in the Redlands, have two children and one grandchild. Honor Roll Monte Manning, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Manning, 8020 SW 15th St. was named to the Dean's Superior Honor Roll with a 4.09 average at Cornell Universiity, Ithaca, N.Y. A graduate of Miami Coral Park Senior High, Manning is majoring in electronic engineering. He is a member of the university's Big Red Band and Cornell's Stage Band. Appointment Harry C. Taylor has been elected to the Board of Directors of University Federal in Coral Gables, announced Ben W. Turner, chairman of the board. Taylor has been with University Federal since 1961, and served as first vice president for many years. Other bank appointments announced recently were: George Abbrusato, controller and assistant treasurer; Donald E. Belt, assistant vice president-Data Systems; and R. Lesley Schooley, assistant vice president Installment Loans.
