Twenty-five Are Pledged By National Honor Group

By BETTY NEWMAN N.H.S. pledges lined the stage last week at the assembly when this honor society took in twenty-five new pledges to carry the society into next year. Sixteen juniors, who will comprise the first members of next year's chapter are Laurence Day, Eve Vance, Denis O'Donovan, Anne Topping, Jeanne Lamper, Betty Jo Miller, Alice Davidson, E. P. Ellis, Jeanette Watters, Sally Peacock, Jane Lewis, Charles Brown, Betty June Brown, Betty George, Joan Greens, and Joan Ditzenberger. Seniors who slipped in under the final wire are Doris Parrish, Paul Weier, Barbara Bowyer, Joan Browne, Tom Hale, Grace Jones, Elene Morales, Barbara Neel, Frances Olson. More and More Pledges So many different groups of pledges are in school now that their pledge duties overlap greatly. Quill and Scroll tapped fourteen new pledges last week to swell the number of pledges. New pledges for this "most exclusive" society are Charles Steers, Gerry Fossum, Kathy Einfeldt, John Gould, Judy Hoffman, Kakie Jones, Diana Roesch, Barbara Bowyer, Shirley Marks, Aaron Hertz, Frank Baker, Ed McGee, and Mildred Garcia. Initiation for these pledges has been set for May 18, at which time the toal membership of the club will swell to twenty. Pat Murphy and Mary Elizabeth Rice tied in a recent speed typing sontest sponsored by the Grove Theater. Both girls used their speediest fingers to average a time of 45 words a minute. Brigham Wins Award Jerre Brigham carries off the title of Outstanding Senior Girl this year for she has won the Coral Gables Woman's Club Trophy, it was announced today by Mrs. Neil Leifeste, awards director. For her outstanding ability in all scholastic fields as well as her dependability, initiative, industry, refinement, tact, courtesy, and kindness, Jerre was voted by the faculty to receive this award. Ponce Tours Model Agency Ponce toured "A Queen Model Agency" today in assembly when the home economics department presented its annual fashion show. The first scene showed the office of the model agency with Klenna Ann Duggar seated at the desk. When two girls come in to apply for jobs, she offers to show them around. First, she takes them to a studio where Joy Dew, selected by her classmates as having the most beautiful hair, is posing for a hairbrush ad. Mildred Smith, with the loveliest hands, is modeling for a big nail polish concern in the second scene. Ann Mayer shows her "prettiest face" to advantage while modeling a picture hat. Helen Hagler's "bes posture" drew whistles as she displayed a pair of shorts. Daytime dresses, evening dresses, playclothes, and beachwear, all made in the sewing classes are modeled in the last scene as the entire cast parades across the stage. Two award assemblies to be held next month will conclude this year's program. Great speculation is taking place as to who will get what awards but one thing is ure. As usual, the mighty gridiron fighters will draw the biggest hand when they step up to receive their gold footballs as rewards for their playing last season. Mrs. Leon Ardy Journeys Again Like Kilroy, Mrs. Herberta Leonardy, debate coach, has done been here and gone. Yup, once again the wandering Mrs. Leo has gone to other regions. This time it is a trip to Washington with her two best "Dan'l Webster" debaters, Darryl McCall and George Strehike to make the tour awarded them for winning the B'Nai B'Brith debating contest. Trips to various local sights and visits to the House and Senate chambers will be prominent in this tour. These three travelers should have a multitude of interesting tales to tell upon their return. Congressman George Smathers will conduct them on their tour.

U. OF M. TRIO LAUDED All-Brahms Concert Given Enthusiastic Praise by Critic

The all-Brahms program presented in the fifth and last concert by the University of Miami Trio of the Miami Chamber Music Society, Monday evening in the Coral Gables Congregational church was satisfying artistically and outstanding in tonal beauty, throughout. The Trio, Henry Gregor, Robert Kistler and Gerard Haft, were definitely en rapport, the result either of like convictions in interpretation, or painstaking "work together, or both. Gregor's piano work, from the delicate lilting arpeggios to the brilliant fortissimo chords, gave just the right piano support to Kistler's colorful violin phrasing; and as usual, Haft played with warmth and zest. The three instruments were fused harmoniously and at times dramatically to achieve fine effects in both the Trio in C major Op. 87 and the Trio in B Major Op. 8. Soloist Applauded Sam Durrance, baritone soloist, contributed to the pleasure of the evening with five Brahms songs, in which his easy freeflowing legato style was modulated from a delightful pianissimo to broader, deeper tonal values in an effortless way that was enjoyable to hear. The Wir Wandelten and the Minnelied were especially appealing. Gregor's accompaniments are the sort that singers prefer: sympathetic, elastic, never obtrusive, but sufficiently brilliant and full to assist in creating musical variations and color contrasts. It is to be hoped these three fine instrumentalists continue their concerts, beginning early in the fall, offering to the discriminating a musical treat, and exposing the wealth of beauty to be found in Chamber music.—Ars Longu.

Graduates of the School of Law of the University of Miami are automatically privileged to practice in any courts in the State of Florida without any examination.
