Talk of the Town AROUND THE GABLES

The Time: Wednesday. The Place: Corner of Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Coral Way. The Interrogator: Joyce Edwards. The Photographer: Jim Oliver. The Question: A group of residents of the county area north of SW 8th Street and west of LeJeune Street are seeking admission to Coral Gables. Do you favor the extension of the Gables city limits to include this territory? LESLIE McQUEEN, 2342 Ponce de Leon Boulevard: "These people should be taken into the Gables rather than into Miami. The Gables will be good to the people, whereas Miami never does anything for the people." McQUEEN MRS. H. INGOE, 431 Avenue Vila Bella: "The people living out there feel as though they are a part of the Gables, and I feel that they should be taken in. Coral Gables will benefit by doing so since those people are near to the Gables and will come in more often to do their shopping." MRS. INGOE WALTER COLLIER, 514 Palermo Street: "As a former resident of the area in question, I believe it would be to the benefit of all to incorporate the area. The houses seem to be up to the code of the Gables. It would be a betterment to the community in general." COLLIER CHESTER E. SMITH, 882 Granada Grove Court: "It would be a fine thing to take this section in. It is a nice section. Not only would the people be happy, but it would bring revenue to Coral Gables as well as helping the residents. Those people need bus service, and other civic help which they would gain through being a part of a city." SMITH EVERETT W. KLUSNER, 2325 Ponce de Leon Boulevard: "There is no reason for not taking those people in. They now shop and spend money in the Gables, but if they were to become citizens of this area, it would mean more money for the merchants, KLUSNER busses, and other enterprises." R. E. REYNA, 1311 Alhambra Gircle: "This project would work toward the development of the city. I feel that this program should be carried out, and that we should not let them take the Key away from the city of Coral Gables. If the people want to become a part REYNA of the city and work to keep it from the Key and improve the area, then we should open our arms to them."
