Bride and Bride-to-Be Make News
COCO PLUM WOMAN'S CLUB TO INSTALL MRS. SNYDER ITS 24TH PRESIDENT
Mrs. C. Ernest Snyder will be installed the 24th president of the Coco Plum Woman's Club at the annual May breakfast May 7th. The breakfast will take place at noon at the club house. Among other new officers to be installed at the same time are Mrs. Ted Reber, 1st vice president; Mrs. Robert Symington, 2nd vice president; Mrs. T. Howard Oden, recording secretary; Mrs. Leonard K. Markman, recording secretary; Mrs. Kenneth Brockway, treasurer. The directors are Mrs. J. H. Farrington, Mrs. James A. Henderson, Mrs. A. T. Pendray and Mrs. Frederick F. Ravlin, immediate past president. Mrs. Snyder came to their area in 1924 and joined the Coco Plum club in 1925. This places her among the pioneer members. For the past two years she has been first vice president and chairman of the house committee. She was chairman of the welfare committee of the Dade County Federation of Women's Clubs in 1945-46 and has continued to be active in welfare work.

Houston, Weiland Vows Today
Of interest to his Coral Gables friends is the marriage of Joseph Weiland, son of Mrs. Frank Weiland of Coral Gables, and the late Dr. Weiland, and Miss Viola Houston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis T. Houston of Bloomington, Ill., which will take place at 4:30 p.m. today in the rectory of the Church of the Little Flower. A reception will follow immediately at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Weiland, uncle and aunt of the bridegroom-to-be. Mrs. Charles Tate and William Hartsell, will be the couple's attendants and the bride will wear a white suit, white accessories and white orchid corsage for her marriage. Following a short honeymoon trip the couple will reside at 1328 Avenue Castile for the summer. Mr. Weiland was educated in the North Dakota schools, and following his war service joined Eastern Airlines, where he is a pilot.
REAMES VOWS SPOKEN IN CALIFORNIA
Mrs. E. Tracy Hollingsworth, 412 Miller Road, South Miami is announcing the marriage of her daughter Carmen L. Wagner and Nelson B. Reames which took place March 28, in Long Beach, Calif. The wedding ceremony was performed in the Normandy Wedding Chapel, Long Beach. Mrs. Hollingsworth was matron of honor for her daughter. Mrs. Reames will be remembered here as the former Carmen Lehman, daughter of the late Phil Lehman, former chief of police of the Coral Gables Police department and later sheriff of Dade County. The couple will make their home in Long Beach, where Mr. Reames is a building contractor.
Plans Tenth Concert
The Philharmonic Society of Greater Miami will present its 10th informal concert in the patio of the Country Club of Coral Gables at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. The program under the direction of Oliver Washburn will feature as soloists the brilliant colorature soprano, Cecilia Duenas.
Mrs. Mallon Leaves for Detroit
Mrs. F. A. Mallon will leave next week for Detroit, Mich. for a summer's visit with her son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Mallon and incidently be on hand to greet her newest grandchild. Mrs. Mallon, who has many friends in Coral Gables for she has visited here winters annually, spent the early part of the season as a guest of Mrs. Maylen Newby Pierce. Mrs. Mallon will probably travel to California late in the summer and will return to Coral Gables next November.

Army Captain and Mrs. S. E. Asplund and three-months-old daughter, Mary Lu, are leaving this week for their new home at Pompano Beach. Capt. Asplund is stationed at Boco Raton. Mrs. Asplund is the former Miss Mary Therese Hiss. They have been guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. U. J. Hiss for the past several months.
To Visit Kinfolks
Mr. and Mrs. U. J. Hiss, 639 Avenue Velarde are leaving next week for Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Hiss will visit in Chicago and South Bend with relatives for about 10 days while Mr. Hiss goes on west on a business trip.

Roman Catholic Rites Unite Miss La Pointe, Mr. O'Laughlin
One of the most impressive wedding processions in the history of church weddings in Coral Gables occured Wednesday morning at 9:30 oclock when Miss Mary Margaret LaPointe became the bride of John Michael O'Laughlin at the Church of the Little Flower. The Rev. Thomas Comber officiated. The bride, the attractive eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin C. LaPointe of 700 Alhambra Circle was preceded to the chancel by her six sisters. They wore dresses made alike of spring green marquisette over taffeta with full sweep skirts, long pointed basque waists and capes of the material edged with double ruffles of the marquisette. Three of the girls wore headdresses of the marquisette and net and three crownless hats of the pleated material with long streamers. They were Catherine Ann, maid-of-honor and bridesmaids Rae Agnes, Patricia, Therese and Louise. Three year old Lillian was flower girl. The bride's gown was made of white slipper satin with pointed basque waist with net yoke appliqued with spirals of the satin full gathered skirt and long train. Her finger-tip length veil was attached to the head with baby Cala lilies and her bouquet of white iris, gardenias and orchids was tied with shower sprays of white mimosa. Edward Byrne of Scotsdale, Pa., was best man for Mr. O'Laughlin. Ushers included the bride's two brothers, Benjamin Jr., and (Please Turn to Page Eight)

GARDEN CLUB TO ELECT OFFICERS AT MONDAY MEET
Election of officers will highlight the business session of the Coral Gables Garden Club meeting at 2:30 p. m. Monday at the club house. Mrs. Young C. Lott, guest speaker, has chosen as her subject "A Naturalist in Central America." Mrs. Lott will be presented by Mrs. Evan D. Roser, program chairman and the lecture will be the concluding program of the International theme as prepared by Mrs. Roser. The Nomenclature chairman, Mrs. W. Wippretch will present the plant material from the African continent. The social hour following will be under the chairmanship of Mrs. Pierre Jones and her committee. A board meeting precedes. Members are asked to bring flower arrangements.
ST. THERESA'S P-TA TELLS SCHOOL PLANS
St. Theresa's P.-T.A. president appointed the following nominating committee to select candidates for the coming year at the business meeting Monday: Mrs. Ernest L. Duhaime, Mrs. William Bickford and Mrs. John Muncey. The association planned details for the senior class play "Pig Tails" to be given May 7th. Plans were also discussed for the Senior-Junior prom. The association will honor the senior class at a banquet to be given May 14th at the Country Club of Coral Gables.
Bride-Elect Helen Giersch Names June 21 As Date
Of wide social interest is the announcement of the engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Helen Dent Giersch and William Reynolds Wilson 3rd, which is being made today by the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Frederick Giersch Jr., of 1538 Avenue Mendavia. The wedding will take place June 21st. Miss Giersch, the daughter of prominent pioneer Coral Gableites, attended Ponce de Leon High school and was graduated from Miss Harris' Florida School. Her fiance, the son of Mrs. Roy S. Cason of Miami and the late William Reynolds Wilson, 2nd, of Philadelphia, attended Ponce de Leon High school and the University of Miami. The bride-elect has chosen her sister Mrs. Lyman Glover Watt, nee Elizabeth Giersch, as her matron-of-honor and Miss Pat Dries as her maid of honor. Bridesmaids will be Miss Suzanne Fleming, Miss Gloria Farver, Miss Muriel Fisher and Miss Grace Greene. Edward Allen will serve Mr. Wilson as best man and groomsmen will be William Prahl, Lyman G. Watt, Jack Vivian, Anthony Von Rhau and Delbert Wells. Mrs. Giersch will honor her daughter and her attendants and assistants at the wedding, with a luncheon tomorrow at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Visits Son. Mrs. Pauline S. Harris, 613 San Antonio Ave., is now visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Harris of Vidalia, Georgia, for several weeks.
