Gables Girl Running Second

Dorothy Lamour is Bob Hope's favorite brunette—but Coral Gables is willing to wager that Kay Duggar of the Youth Center will be Dade County's number one brunette this Saturday when the Paramount theater chain sends down the curtain on its "My Favorite Brunette" contest. The pretty Miss, whose number on the contest ballot is 35, was running a close second at last report. The winning brunette will receive $1,000 worth of clothes.

YMCA NOTES

GRA-Y CLUBS The Coral Gables, Coconut Grove and Vet's Village Gra-Y Clubs have formed a Softball League. Games are scheduled on Tuesdays. Harold Edwardson, Mike East, Hank Ramsauer and Gordon Craig, leaders of the groups, are making arrangements. The Gra-Y Clubs of the Coral Gables Elementary School held their Annual Father and Son Banquet Tuesday at the YMCA, 2901 Ponce de Leon Blvd. William von Seggern, member of the YMCA Committee of Management and Gra-Y Father, presided at the dinner. William Cadwell, former Program Director of the USO, was the guest speaker. Movies followed the program. The committee in charge of arrangements were Mrs. William von Seggern, Mrs. Charles Brandt, Mrs. Cecil Vaughn. HI-Y CLUBS The Hi-Y Sweetheart Dance will be held at the Ponce High school gym tonight at 8 p. m. The HI-Y Sweetheart of the year will be presented during the intermission. The outstanding girl of the year in scholarship, popularity and the girl who has done the most for the school during the year will be elected. The committee in charge are Bill Farwell, Fraseur Knight and Bill Cann. UNIVERSITY STUDENT YMCA Dr. Dora Klemay was the guest at the meeting of the YM and YWCA at the YMCA April 28. Officers for the coming year who were elected included John Hernick, president; Curtis Goodson, vice-president; Sam Thatcher, secretary; David Vogt, treasurer, and Gordon Craig, chaplain. The installation service will be held Tuesday, May 13, at 7:50 p. m. at the Y building.

Tennis Tourney In Third Week At Country Club

Several entries for the men's doubles event had been made as the Coral Gables Country Club Tennis Tournament went into its third week. While the women's doubles and the girls' doubles have been canceled, remaining in the tourney are the mixed doubles, boys' doubles, father-son, and husband-wife events. The tournament will terminate the middle of this month with a banquet dinner-dance when Country Club trophies will be awarded the champions. Nance Named Speaker for Graduation

Commencement speaker for the University of Miami exercises Friday, May 30, will be Dr. Ellwood C. Nance, president of the University of Tampa, acording to Dr. William P. Dismukes, chairman of the committee on commencement. The exercises, which will be held in the Gables theater at 10:30 a.m., will be the last event in a week of senior activities. First function for seniors will be a dinner dance in their honor which the alumni association will sponsor on Friday, May 23, at the south campus at 7 p.m. Peter White is the chairman of the committee planning the affair. Bishop John Wing, of the Episcopal diocese of South Florida, will give the sermon in the baccalaureate services Sunday, May 25, at 11 a.m. in the Trinity Episcopal church, 464 N.E. 16th street. Invocation at the services will be pronounced by Rabbi Albert Michels, Hillel adviser at the University, and the Rev. Robert Marshburn, adviser to the Presbyterian student group, will give the benediction. Annual concert of the School of Music will be presented at 4:30 in the afternoon of May 25 in the Miami Senior High School auditorium. Charlie Franklin, student association president, is in charge of arrangements for the all-day picnic scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, at Blue Waters, and he has announced that it will be postponed, in the event of rain, until the following day. Thursday, May 29, seniors will participate in a stunt show at 8 p.m. in the north campus theater, according to Margaret Blue, senior class president. A reception and dance, for which Miss Mary Brunson, counsellor for women, is making arrangements, will be given for seniors and their guests Thursday evening from 9 to midnight at the San Sebastian building. Barry Davis' orchestra will play for dancing. Music for Friday's commencement program will be provided by William Sweitzer, organist, and the University chorus, directed by William J. Lee.

Song Fest Planned by Fraternal Group

Vocal talent of sororities and fraternities from the University of Miami will be heard tonight at 7:30 at the Coral Gables Elementary School when the annual song fest gets underway. These organizations have been practicing for several months for this night. The audience will probably see plenty of competition, because the winner will receive a gold cup for their superior voices, their neatness of dress, and the conductor's ability to lead.
