Building Inspector Predicts Rise in Costs; Supply Houses, Realty Brokers Disagree

Except for a slight temporary flurry of price increases, Coombe foresees little chance of a sellers' market developing. He predicted the possibility of what would amount to a black market in scarce materials for a short period, but that it would collapse when prices went too high. Supporting Campbell's views, John A. Lyden, of the local real estate firm of Mickler & Lyden, stated that he was wholly in accord with the belief that there would be an increase in property values and construction prices. Due to the scarcity of labor and the fact that there are large building projects under way in this area, the rise will be substantial, he said.
Rites Saturday For Walter Finn
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:15 Saturday morning in the Church of the Little Flower for Walter Guy Finn, 66, of South Miami, who died Tuesday following a long illness. A former foreign representative for the Studebaker Export Corporation for 30 years, Finn retired and moved to this area. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Helen Mona Finn; two sons, John and Harold and four granddaughters, Mickey, Donald, David and Constance, of Detroit. Philbrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
City May Get Biltmore Links

Charges for the use of the Granada golf course by non-residents were boosted to $1.50 for 18 holes, at the Tuesday commission meeting. Non-residents have been paying $1 greens fees, the same as that charged to residents.

Formation of the real estate firm of Petitt and Blanchard, Inc., with offices for the present at 4619 S. W. 15th Street, was announced today. Members of the firm include Richard R. and Clarice B. Petitt and William G. Blanchard, Jr. The Petitts were formerly associated with B. C. de Rothchild while Blanchard was associated with his father in the E. B. Lewis Realty Co.

New Course Announced by Riddle College
An accelerated language course, featuring conversational Spanish and orientation in South American background, will start Monday at Riddle Inter-American College, Arthur E. Boudreau, director of the college, announced Thursday. The 16-week course is believed to be the only one of its kind in the United States aimed specifically toward solving the problem of inter-American business relations, and has attracted students who are interested in establishing careers both in the Grentair Miami area and in South America. Through intensified training, the student is able to cover the equivalent of three years of college work in Spanish in 16 weeks, Boudreau said. At the same time, he is instructed in the customs, geography, history and industrial development of South America. Wood is growing in our forests at the rate of about 11,000,000,000 cubic feet per year or about 21,- 500 cubic feet per minute.

Accept Lowest Bid On Youth Center

Semple that it could not commit future commissions to a 10-year program of $5,000 annual appropriations, the city fathers passed a resolution approving such a program and urging future commissions to continue the grant. Morgenthaler told the commissioners that the Youth Center had $15,000 in cash in the building fund and that unpaid pledges amounted to $24,000. At a special meeting on Monday the Youth Center board of directors authorized Morgenthaler to negotiate for a loan providing interest did not exceed 5 per cent nor the loan period 20 years. The first city appropriation to the Center's fund is contained in the current budget as a $5,000 item for recreation. The western states lead in volume of timber.

Temporary Permit 6. Gave Joseph A. Zeller a temporary permit to operate a filling station in connection with his taxi business at 3703 S.W. 8th Street, pending the erection of the proposed theater in that location. 7. Approved a request of J. L. Emery, Jr., to replat lots 15 and 16, Tamiami Place No. 3, to face west on Wallace Street instead of south on Avenue Pinero. Clinic Approved 8. Approved a request by Dr. F. P. Poppe to erect a clinic on the south side of Avenue Minorca, near LeJeune Road. 9. Approved a request by L. H. Gross to construct two duplexes on the northeast corner of LeJeune and Bird Roads. 10. Approved a temporary beer and wine permit for the barge "Atlantic," anchored in Biscayne Bay. 11. Shelby Gaskin was program chairman. Stewart, who plans to locate here permanently, will be the next soloist on the Philharmonic concert series. He told the club that very little is being done in this area to aid young people with vocal talent and that he hopes to accomplish something towards creating more opportunity for them here. The Chipola River runs through Florida Caverns State Park.
