Marriage Vows Made In Ohio By Schlemmers

Mr. and Mrs. James Schlemmer will reside at 1330 Coral Way following their Ohio marriage and New York and Eastern states wedding trip. Witnessed by relatives and friends from Coral Gables, the couple said their vows in a candle-light ceremony June 14th in Canton Ohio's Trinity Reformed Church. Mrs. Schlemmer, the former Miss Madge Shirk, wore traditional white satin for her marriage to Mr. Schlemmer and was attended by five girls including maid-of-honor Miss Muriel Schlemmer of Coral Gables, sister of the bridegroom. They wore Bustle gowns fashioned alike in marquisette, blue for the honor maid and canary yellow for the bridesmaids. Sherwood Schlemmer was best man for his brother and the ushers included Sherwood Shirk, brother of the bride. A reception in the Shirk home in Avondale, followed the ceremony. The bridegroom's mother was in powder blue crepe with a corsage of light pink carnations. Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Shirk and Charles Maxwell White, a classmate at the University of Miami, all of Coral Gables were among out-of-town guests at the wedding. Mr. Shirk, incidently is a cousin of both the bride and the groom. The bride attended Muskingum College. Mr. Schlemmer, the son of Mrs. Ida Schlemmer, of Coral Gables, and the late Mr. Schlemmer, is a graduate of the University of Miami and served three years in the Navy. For travel, the new Mrs. Schlemmer wore a bluegrey suit with pink accessories.

Godwins Marry In Church Rites; Honeymoon North By Plane

On a wedding trip by plane to visit the bridegroom's parent's in Sikeston, Mo., are Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thomas Godwin whose marriage was an event of Sunday. A double ring ceremony performed by Dr. Nevin C. Schaaf, united the former Miss Jean Matthews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thurman L. Matthews of 6905 Avenue Talavera, and Mr. Godwin. Standards of vari-colored gladioli and aster blooms with candelabra with burning tapers gave a summer air to the chancel decorations. Miss Margaret Matthews, sister of the bride, who also acted as her only attendant, sang "Because" preceding the service. Warner Hardman organist presided at the console. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white slipper satin simply designed with a Robespierre collar of lace. Her finger-tip-length veil was attached to a tiara of white blossoms and she carried white stephanotis and orchids. Maid-of-honor Miss Matthews was gowned in a deep shade of blue georgette made with gathered full-sweep skirt attached to hipline waist, with neck and sleeves edged with pink rosebuds. Pink carnations also formed her bouquet and headdress. Paul A. Mereness was best man for Mr. Godwin and ushers were Hamilton Hayes, Bernie Burgess and David McDonald. At the reception following the ceremony at the Matthews home, Mrs. Hamilton Hayes presided over the bride's book. picnic on Saturday July 12th at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Donald, Miss Peggy Clark, assisted at the reception. For travel the bride wore a powder blue suit with navy accessories. She is a graduate of Ponce de Leon High school and Miami University at Oxford, O. She also completed her art courses at the Ringling Brothers Museum of Art, Sarasota. Mr. Godwin was educated in the Sikeston schools and entered the army air forces where he served for three years. He is now in business in a Miami tire company and he and his bride will reside in their own new home in University Manor.

OLD RESIDENTS BUY NEW HOMES | NEW RESIDENTS CHOOSE GABLES

Mrs. Fletcher Burke of 2715 De Soto Boulevard, has as her house guests her daughter, Mrs. Esten Sutherland, Jr., and small daughter Susan, of Rochester, N. Y., who will remain through the month of August. Mr. and Mrs. Burke, formerly Coral Gableites, who lived in Miami for several years, very recently took possession of the attractive ranch-type home on De Soto Boulevard. Mrs. Burke's two nieces, who make their homes with her are vacationing. Miss Evelyn Dunbar is in Chicago and Miss Peggy Mauney, recent graduate of Agnes Scott College, is visiting her grandmother in Atlanta, Ga. Dr. and Mrs. S. P. Alderson recently took possession of their new home at 2413 Country Club Prado. Mrs. Alderson, who is leaving soon to visit relatives in Sioux City, Ia., and then to vacation in Maine, has as her guest for a few weeks her daughter, Miss Bebe Daniel, of Tallahassee, who attends Florida State. Among newcomers to the city are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bomhoff, who have purchased the house at 810 Cortez Street for their Florida home. From Jackson, Mich., the Bomhoffs have three attractive children, Carolyn, 12; Janet, 9 and Romie, 6. Mr. Bomhoff is in business here. Welcome Smiths Among newcomers to Coral Gables are Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Smith and their young daughter, who have bought the home at 740 Avenue Escobar. A Pan American Airways pilot, Mr. Smith is taking some special training at present. The Smiths spent nearly ten years in Chile, from which country they have just returned. They are members of the Methodist church. Plans Special Courses Dr. and Mrs. Blair Madsen and their year-old son David, are leaving tomorrow on a month's vacation. Dr. Madsen will attend special classes in periodontia exodontia, in Birmingham and Montgomery, Ala. He will then join Mrs. Madsen at Prophetstown, Ill., where she will spend three weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Mathis.

The Roy Gilmour Pavys On Summer Vacation

The Reverend Roy Gilmour Pavy and Mrs. Pavy have left on their summer vacation which they will spend in Chester, Conn. The Reverend Frank T. Hirons will preach Sunday on the text "Think on These Things." Geraldine Rasmussen and Louise Kruse will sing the duet "There is a holy city." The choir will sing "Verdant Meadows" by Haendel, Frances Hovey Bergh, organist and choir Director will play "Southern Memories" by Wilson, "Adagio" by Guilmant and "Credo" by Haydn. There will be a church school

A SIMPLE HOME CEREMONY UNITES THE RUDDY FACSELLS

A simple home ceremony at 7 p. m. Friday united in marriage Miss Eileen Theresa Quail and Ruddy Facsell. Judge David K. Heffernan officiated at the double-ring ceremony and the couple were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Dante B. Fascell brother and sister-in-law of the groom. A reception for over 200 guests followed at the Country Club of Coral Gables. The bride, daughter of Mrs. Bess Quail of Larchmont, N. Y., and Miami, wore an all-white mousse-lin de soie dress made with full sweep, gathered at the waist, skirt short puff sleeves and round neck, trimmed in rosepoint lace. Long matching gloves and headdress with finger-tip-length veil completed her costume. Her flowers were all white orchids. Frank E. Cianflone, friend of the family, gave the bride in marriage. The bride's mother wore a long dress of old rose crepe with gold sequins and orchids. The mother of the bridegroom was attired in aqua-blue crepe, white accessories and white orchid corsage. For travel to the North Carolina mountain resorts, the blonde bride wore a black silk suit and white accessories. The new Mrs. Fascell is a graduate of St. Ursuline Academy, St. Louis, Mo. Mr. Fascell the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Fascell of 4820 S. W. 5th terrace, is a graduate of Ponce de Leon High school. He entered the army at graduation and served five years in the signal corps with two years overseas. He is now attending the University of Miami.

Ham Supper Next Thursday Is Aux. Event

Famous for their delicious baked ham suppers, which they served last winter, members of the 1920-Dec. chapter of St. Philip's women's auxiliary will serve one on July 10 (next Thursday), beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the parish house, 1121 Avenue Andalusia. Mrs. J. R. Matthews, general chairman of arrangements, points out that a children's plate at 50c, which includes milk, will be a feature. Assisting the chairman are the following: Mrs. Winston Wynn Mrs. Annie Laurie Martin, Mrs. L. H. DeWees, Mrs. Roland Ellis, Mrs. Albert Gleason, Mrs. Raymond Burr, Mrs. J. I. Peace And Post-War Planning Dropped By General Federation

Departmental changes, made at the recent New York city convention of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, results in discontinuing the Peace and Post War Planning departments, according to word from Mrs. L. J. McCaffrey, Florida state president of the federation. Mrs. McCaffrey also points out that the word "American" would be dropped from American Citizenship Deparemnt. The change allows a world participation in citizenship. Mrs. McCaffrey, elected president of the president's committee of the National Board, announced the executive board would meet Oct. 17-18 in Washington, D. C., and that the next general convention would take place May 23, 1948, in Portland, Ore. Mildred Whitewell, formerly of Daytona Beach, now of Washington, D. C., was named editor of the "Clubwoman," general federation monthly magazine.

Comdr. Knight to Cuba

On a short business trip to Havana and other points in Cuba, is Lieut. Comdr. John D. Knight, who left Tuesday by Pan American Clipper ship.

Visits Mother

Mr. and Mrs. Parks Rusk are visiting Mr. Rusk's mother, Mrs. R. H. Rusk in Atlanta, Ga., after spending a week in the Great Smokies. The Rusks reside at 32 Avenue Santillane.

To Attend Last Rites

Mrs. Kathryn Wickham and son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Courtney, left Monday by motor car for Bessemer, Ala., to attend the last rites for Mrs. Wickham's brother-in-law, Jack Krahenbuhl who passed away Monday. Mr. Krahenbuhl visited in Coral Gables with his family many times, and will be remembered here.

Riviera Club Plans Fourth

The Riviera Country Club will hold open house for members and their guests all day on the fourth. Festivities will include men's flag tournament at 10 a.m.; children's swim party at 4 p.m. (including races and special events). A cocktail dance from 5 to 7 p.m. and a moonlight dance at 9 on the terrace rounds out a busy day.

Wins Scholarship

Jan Turkewicz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Antoni N. Turkewicz, 4200 S. W. 3rd st., has won a scholarship at the Julliard School of Music. Jan took his first lesson at the Miami Conservatory seven years ago. He studied with Constance Seeger then with Joel Belov of the University of Miami School of Music and concert meister, Conductor Modeste Alloo of the University Symphony.
