(Continued from Page 1) versity Drive asked the commissioners to effect some kind of control during the summer season so that the influx of some 7,000 students for the fall semester would not create an overwhelming problem. McIlwain advised Cook that the police cars were paying more and more attention to the area on their tours of duty and that the survey would enable more intelligent plans for traffic control.

Officials Named For Elks Field Day, Sept. 1st

(Continued from Page 1) ton Beck, Frank Freeman and J. W. Liversedge. Reports leaking out from secret sessions indicate that the exhibition "clowns" softball game will be the zaniest diamond exhibition ever seen south of Ebbets Field. It is hinted that official rules for the game demand that: 1. Players wear boxing gloves in place of mitts. 2. Southpaws must play right-handed, and vice versa. 3. Batters will run to third, instead of first base upon hitting the apple. 4. Four strikes and three balls will be allowed. 5. Umpires must be accompanied by Seeing Eye dogs for calling the close ones. Aiding Fullwood in preparation for the celebration are John A. Rosasco, Jack Gramley, Ed Beckman and A. E. Harum.

Boy Scout's 'Snakeskin' Tie Slinky -- But Not Popular

Tommy Daniel is sponsoring a new fashion in cravats-but he reluctantly admits that his idea has been received in most quarters with something less than enthusiasm. What the 14-year-old Gables Boy Scout wears slung around his neck as he bicycles about town is the yellow-bellied skin of a three-and-a-half foot green snake. What most people object to is that the snake-writhing, darting and coiling-is still inside it! "Lookit. Now isn't he a beauty?" queried the owner proudly as the reptile slithered down from his neck into Tommy's shirt pocket for a snooze. From where your reporter stood, the apple-green and yellow coloring appeared attractive-but not enough to encourage closer acquaintance. Christened "Beauregard," the snake is probably the most traveled of its species in Coral Gables. Draped carelessly around the boy's shoulders, the reptile hangs on by the simple process of twining its tail around the spot where a snake's neck might be, and darts forked tongue into the breeze as Tommy pedals along. "Snakes are wonderful to have around the house," Tommy averred. "Why, just think-they eat flies and roaches and, er, lots of other things!" He confessed that he uses this salestalk on his mother and his father, L. A. Daniel, head of Ponce de Leon Portrait Studios, every time he adds to the collection of lizards, chameleons and snakes he quarters at the Daniel home, 2953 S. W. 16th Terrace. But probably more persuasive to his parents is the fact that Tommy, who belongs to Troop 43, which meets at the American Legion Home on Alhambra Circle, is trying for his Reptile Merit Badge.

HAVE YOU HEARD THE ONE ABOUT THE 4 PENGUINS?

They came up here from the Antarctic. And summers were quite a problem. How could they keep cool? The first penguin plumped for attic ventilation. And it worked wonders! He's written his agent to go ahead and sell the igloo. The second penguin installed a big air-cooling fan. He's wiring money to Mrs. P. and the kids to come on up and join him. The third penguin (who smokes a lot) figured he needed complete air conditioning. He sleeps like a kitten now. The fourth penguin bought himself a big new electric fan. It's been weeks since he even thought about the old home berg. Yes, each in his own different way solved his problem of how to keep cool in summer. And they all lived happily ever after. Certainly Penguins aren't smarter than people! SEE YOUR DEALER TODAY! Brand new post-war cooling appliances are now available at your electric dealers. See him today and breeze through the hot weather. Convenient terms are available. FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT COMPANY HELPING BUILD FLORIDA
