BAD ROADS BOOST MAIL DELIVERY COSTS

TAMPA. — Mail delivery over bad roads costs twice as much as it does over surfaced highways, A. C. Callaway, president of the American Road Builders' Association, told delegates to the annual convention of the National Rural Letter Carriers' Association. But in spite of this, 1,673,520 miles, or 87 per cent of our total mileage of secondary and feeder roads, are still without surfaces of any kind, Mr. Callaway pointed out.

Central Miami News Letter

By MARY HICKEY The first thing we want to do this week is to offer an apology to one of our neighbors; for much to our dismay we discovered, too late for correction, that we had misspelled their name. So our very humble apologies to Mr. and Mrs. James Crymes, whom we accused of being "Crimes" in last weeks column! Neighborhood Notes Our confidence in the future of "Frog Hollow" has been further confirmed by a sign which made its appearance recently at the corner of Bird and Red Roads. It announces that a huge building will be erected on that site in the very near future—said building to house a super market, drug store, hardware store, and filling station! And along those same lines, we also learned today that construction is just about to begin on approximately nineteen more homes in this immediate vicinity. At the rate at which we're growing, it won't be long before our "Mayor," Capt. Davies, will have to appoint a Commission to assist him in keeping the community in line! Incidentally, we've heard quite a bit of discussion among the neighbors lately as to the possibility of getting the Gables bus service extended to include our community. How about it, Mayor, do you think anything could be done? Welcome, Neighbor! Among the more recent newcomers to our community are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bronaugh and family, who have purchased the home at 3620 S. W. 60th Court. Mr. Bronaugh, who is a native Virginian, is here as the local representative of the Allis-Chalmers Mfg. Co., and prior to the war, represented that company in Richmond and Norfolk, Va. During the war years Mr. Bronaugh served as a Lt. Commander in the U. S. Navy and was stationed in Louisville, Ky. at the well-known "Jeff Boat" — a shipbuilding company devoted to the building of LST's. Mrs. Bronaugh hails originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but says that she likes Florida and hopes they will be able to remain here permanently. The Bronaughs have two children: Ann Minor, eight years old, and Taylor, who is ten. Mrs. Bronaugh's mother, Mrs. Gertrude Taylor, is also making her home here with them. * * * We learned today that Mrs. Paul Greenaway of 60th Court was elected this past week to the post of Historian for the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Coral Gables American Legion Post. Congratulations, Mrs. Greenaway — we know you'll do an excellent job.
