Gables Presbyterian
The congregation of Gables Presbyterian Church in congregation meeting on last Sunday took action purchasing two lots fronting one hundred feet on Obispo Avenue between Columbus and Cordova. Messrs. Selden L. Stewart, II, John N. Verham, Jr., William J. McLeod, Jr., Leonard L. Amorous, Frank A. Taylor, John A. Bouvier, Jr., Mrs. J. N. Vernam, Sr., and Mrs. B. M. Larson were appointed a committee to approve plans, determine the sum to be invested in the building, and to erect the building at the earliest possible date. Dr. Larson announced as his sermon topic for the 11 a. m. worship service next Sunday in the Merrick Demonstration school, 39 Zamora Avenue, as "The Saints and Their Sins" in which he will say in part: "The fact of sins in the experience of Christian men and women creates for many a grave and complex problem. So long as the Christian lives in obedience to the will of God, the Holy Spirit dwelling in him produces the normal fruits of Christian grace. "'The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance . . .' But when sin enters, the Holy Spirit changes His work in convicting of sin. "Men do not like to have their sins set before them. Under this phase of the work of the Spirit, the Saints of God are unhappy, troubled and often are led into false conclusions. Yet this work of God by the Holy Spirit is necessary that the saints may see their exceeding sinfulness, and repent, and turn from sin to new obedience. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (John 1:9). "Sin confessed, removes the partition wall, and the saints are restored to a joyous fellowship with God, and a satisfying experience of salvation.
