Wedding Bells Peal For Many August Brides

Miss Mary Elizabeth Orr Mr. Sistrunk Plight Troth

MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM FORREST SISTRUNK Lloyd D. LeMan photo An heirloom cameo brooch which had been in her family for four generations was worn by Miss Mary Elizabeth Orr for her Saturday marriage to William Forrest Sistrunk. The 4 p. m. double ring ceremony was performed by Dr. Nevin H. Schaaf at the First Presbyterian church, decorated with cathedral candles, white gladioli, baby's breath and palms, and was witnessed by a large group of representative families of this area. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Grant Orr, Jr., 23 Alhambra Plaza, wore a summer bridal robe of white nylon velveray with all-over embroidery, her full buffant skirt ending in a long train. Her wedding veil was a white lace mantilla belonging to her mother and her bouquet was designed on her mother's white feather fan, which Mrs. Orr carried at her own wedding, and was composed of white roses, the bridegroom's fraternity, Sigma Chi, centered with an orchid. Mr. Orr escorted his daughter to the chancel. Wear Pastels The four attendants of the bride wore gowns made alike of taffeta and nylon net, off the shoulder basque bodice and full skirts with set-in bands of taffeta bows down the skirt back. Their head dresses were bands of matching mums and ribbon streamers. They were Miss Ellen Michele Fairbrother, maid-of-honor, in peach; Miss Mathilda Corbly, bridesmaid, in aqua; Mrs. Walter Ernest, Jr., of Waycross, Ga., bridesmatron, in blue; Mrs. James J. Carney, Jr., matron of honor, in peach. Their bouquets were cascades of white, purple and yellow mums tied with matching ribbons. They wore matching lace mitts, the gifts of the bride. Little Sheila Carney was flower girl and led the bridal procession carrying a basket of white rose petals and stephanotis. Her old-fashioned styled gown was white net over taffeta made with long bouffant skirt, low neck and sleeves. Her hat was a flower crown of white mums. Gosper Willis Sistrunk, father of the bridegroom, was his best man and ushers included Samuel Miller, James Chappas, James Hiss and William Grant Orr, III, brother of the bride. All of the men in the bridal party wore white suits with carnation boutonnieres, the bride's sorority, Chi Omega fraternity, flower. Mrs. John Hunt, director of the church choir, of which the bride and her father are members, sang "Because," and "O Promise Me," preceding the ceremony. Warner Hardman presided at the console. Reception in Gardens The beautiful gardens of Mrs. Ralph Nelson Greene, Sr., 3616 Harlano street, grandmother of the bride, was the scene of the reception following the nuptials. A three-tiered wedding cake centered a lace-covered table which had as a background towering shrubs of blooming pink La France hibiscus and blue plumbago, Chi Omega sorority sisters of the bride assisted. They included Miss Barbara Barclay, who kept the bride's book; Miss Edith Hjort and Mrs. Percy M. Pitts, the former Marion Hasty. Mrs. Orr chose a floor length gown of turquoise crepe with matching mouleen hat, rose gloves and orchid corsage. Mrs. Greene was in floor length gown of soft grey crepe, roses on green veiling hat and orchid corsage. Mrs. Phillip Orr of Haddonfield, N. J., paternal grandmother of the bride was in grey print, flower hat and orchids. For going away the bride changed to a pink eyelet embroidered dress, matching Dutch style cap, white accessories, white orchid. After a motor trip through Florida and visits to kinsfolk in Jacksonville, and Ocala, the couple will reside in their own apartment at 329 S. W. 27th ave., Miami. Distinguished Forbears The new Mrs. Sistrunk who wore the cameo brooch belonging to her great great grandmother, Sara Rowell Allen, is the granddaughter of the late Dr. Ralph Nelson Greene, famed neurologist, formerly of Jacksonville, who was among the first flight surgeons of the Army Medical corps in the first world war. Upon his retirement from active practice he moved to Coral Gables and became medical director of Eastern Airlines. Her ancestors were also among the first settlers of Indiana, Thomas Greene having been territorial governor of the new state. Mr. Sistrunk was born in Huntsville, Ala., of a pioneer Alabama family. He was graduated from Ponce de Leon High school and saw three years of naval service during the war as a radio man aboard the USS Monrovia with action in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres. He participated in the landing at Tarawa, the Marshall Islands and Sicily. He possesses the Presidential Unit Citation and the Army-Navy Unit Citation. He is now in business, associated with his father in Sistrunk, Inc., Miami.
