CORAL GABLES COUNTRY CLUBBER

By GORDON TAYLOR Are you folks ready to "Meet The Wife" next Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday? The Calendar says September 2nd, 4th and 5th. Pat Hodge, Francis Hickey, Marge Gebhart, and Frances Embry are eager and willing to tell you all the tickets you need — or don't need. The members participating in this play have sweated diligently through August without complaint to give you a superb performance. A new star will be sparkling all over the place, and Phyllis "The Wife" Rowland will get wonderful support in this side-splitter from Ted Hodge, Walter Ashby, Muriel Marshall, Roff Elliott, the Archers, and Don Leigh. The "Hick" dance last Wednesday went off like a charm and everyone had a good time. Great credit goes to the Dunne family and their committee, and the cooperation of the dance group was most gratifying The entertainment schedule has gotten well started. Next on the agenda will be the circus party on the 25th of September. Dolores Rohe has returned from her vacation to announce that her circus committee has been cooking with gas. Plot Bridge Tests Getting in the groove for 1948 is the committee for bridge tournaments. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Elgie, chairmen, were ably assisted in their round-table plans last week by Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith, Mrs. Ruth Gunion, Mrs. Annabelle Wilson, Mrs. Kitty Rhoades, Mrs. Dora Coord and Mrs. Charlotte Lipsey. Bridge, like politics, can be discussed from now until atomic day, but up through the chitchat came some good ideas and some excellent plans. "Vacation Time" is the theme of our regular Fashion show tomorrow. Coordinator Gloria Robinson will have fashions from Lillian Frederics and luggage from Bliss Travel Bureau. Call Charles for reservations. The tennis gang came up with a whopping good victory last Sunday over Hollywood. Lots of credit to the players who seem to have a team strong from the top to the bottom. It's the only group so far to get in their 1948 schedule to the Tournaments and Trophies committee. Glee Mystery Party The most mysterious build-up given a party in recent history was the one Mary Harrison schemed with Bob Bakke. It involved jingled cards, newspaper ads, Spanish directions, a secret rendezvous, a motorcade over Coconut Grove, lots of food and fun. Curiosity got the better of some of the invited guests who self-appointed themselves to act as espionage agents for the "kiddies". Flash! Flash! Helen and Pen Pennock are vacationing. Henry Briggs is the proud father of a baby boy. Member Ralph Poole reports a rapid recovery from his Chicago hospital. "Meet The Wife" is not a sell-out—yet. Bee and Boo Bushnell say they have an avocado that stands in a class by itself. The buffet next Wednesday will be ROAST PRIME RIBS OF BEEF, served where you sit. Winners of contract bridge Tuesday, Aug. 19th, were Mrs. Katherine K. Rhoades and Mrs. Charles Oehler, while honors on Friday, Aug. 22, went to Mrs. Jim Ammen and Mrs. Wallace Foulks. First winners for the duplicate bridge group Monday, August 18th, were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Walker; second winners, Mrs. Isabel Chapman and Mrs. Madge Evans. Duplicate winners Thursday, Aug. 21st were Mrs. W. A. Lipsey and Mrs. Frank Baker. VFW Campaigns For Confab Here

Members of Ray Renuart Post, V.F.W., voted last night to launch a campaign to bring the 1948 national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to Greater Miami. Local delegates to this year's confab will join forces with representatives of other posts in the area to persuade the national organization that Miami is the logical site for the next convention. In anticipation of success, Commander W. E. Hackett said, post officials will confer with municipal authorities on possible sight-seeing tours and entertainment attractions in Coral Gables that might be offered visiting VFWs.
