Contact With Frog Hollow Lost During Big Blow

Though storm winds had subsided, efforts to reach the Riviera-Times' "Frog-Hollow" correspondent for a report on how the suburb weathered the hurricane proved futile yesterday. We feel certain, however, that Mary Hickey's popular news letter from that picturesque community will be back again next issue.

Miss Amidon Named Concert Soloist

The Philharmonic Society of Greater Miami announced today that the soloist for the next concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Coral Gables, which will be held on Tuesday evening, September 30th, will be Miss Charlotte Amidon, oboist. This concert will be held, as usual, in the patio of the Country Club of Coral Gables. Miss Amidon, who is the regular First Oboist with the Philharmonic, is a native of Coral Gables, and resides here now with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Amidon. She is a graduate of Coral Gables Elementary School, of Edison High School, and has attended Barry College. She is considered as having an outstanding talent on the oboe, a difficult instrument, having played with the University of Miami Symphony Orchestra (since her grade-school days), under Modest Alco, as First Oboist with the Firestone Hour under Howard Barlow, with the Orchestra of the Opera Guild of Miami, under George Schick and Giorgio Sebastion, and as soloist with the Barry College Little Symphony, under Bower Murphy. She is president of the All-Miami Youth Symphony and was one of its student conductors. For her principal solo numbers,

[Miss Amidon Named Concert Soloist Continued]

Miss Amidon has selected the "First Concertino," by Henri Guilbaud, a French composer, and "Perpetual Motion," by Joseph J. B. J. Arban, arranged by Vanasek. Although offered a number of valuable scholarships at several other colleges, Miss Amidon will continue her studies locally. The J. P. Riddle Foundation for Orchestral Composition has announced that its selection to be played on the September program is "Etude for Orchestra," by Frank Linale. Miami Resident Linale, a resident of Miami, is perhaps better known in Chicago and in New York, where he has a national reputation as an arranger and composer. In both capacities he helped develop some of the great "name" dance orchestras of today. Much of his work, in both capacities, has been recorded for Columbia.
