CORAL GABLES COUNTRY CLUBBER
By GORDON TAYLOR | KATHERINE HINCKE PINCH HITTING | "Curiosity killed the cat" seems to be the theme for the BEACH PARTY scheduled for September 24th. Gwen Tuckerman says that they are keeping all plans to themselves with the result of a surprise when you all get here that night. She did tell me enough that I can promise you a wonderful time and loads of laughs. The biggest event of the evening will be the Beauty Contest for men and women. How they will grade the contest is one of the secrets along with the decorations for the dance floor. Incidently, you men can heave a sigh of relief when you know that once again you will be able to dance without coats!! Other entertainment for that evening will be a couple of Beach Games, one of which will be passing the ball from under your chin to the person behind you without touching it with your hands. The one you pass it to does the same with the person behind him. If you have ever tried it, you know the fun in store for you and if you haven't tried it, this will be the perfect time to learn!! In keeping with the Beach Party, the Buffet Menu for that night will be Fried Oysters and all the stuff that goes with them!! | Junior Dance | Speaking of dances, a close follow-up to the Beach Party will be the Junior Dance on Friday, September 26th. Mrs. Ray Westcott is the chairman in charge and her report is that it is to compensate for the Easter dance that the group missed. The dance will be semi-formal and we are hoping the Junior Members will give us a big turnout. | The Club is buzzing with the activity of Mrs. Rohe's group who are planning the CIRCUS for Tuesday, September 23rd. The applications for the pet show are coming in steadily and the more the merrier!! The barker for the Circus will be Sid Cassell, who will no doubt have to visit and MD before he is through with the day!! | Another entertainer on the program for that day is Mrs. Muriel Marshall, who will be in charge of the Baton Act. Genial Dr. Robert McVoy is in charge of the Clown Parade, which sounds like one of the most important parts of the program. Jumbo, the Elephant, will be here at 2:00 to satisfy all you youngsters' desires. Chiquita, the monkey, will be strolling around the Circus grounds leading her master with all the famous Hurdy-Gurdy music. The Palmist for the day will be Princess Nina Caracciolo, who has been instructing classes in ballet technique here at the Club. | Blind Bogey | Bill Gorman of the Golf Committee reports that there will be weekly Blind Bogey Tournaments (9 holes) for men and women. The dates set for next week are September 24 and 27. To qualify for the Club Championship Tournament in November you must establish your handicap by playing in at least 5 of the weekly tournaments. See "Umps" Clark for details. | It is still too early to report the outcome of the try-outs for the cast of OUTWARD BOUND, the next production slated for the Theater Group. However, I can say that the group is planning on giving the performances the latter part of October and the tickets will be going on sale as soon as possible. There will be more details next week. | Fashion Show | Another reminder: Club FASHION SHOW has been scheduled for Saturday, September 27 at 12:00 noon. Gloria Robinson, coordinator, tells me that the theme will be "Models of Tomorrow" featuring the styles from Daniels. There will be suits, dresses, play clothes and bathing suits have also been considered. The main interest of the show will be a suit by Lili Ann and some Miami-made dresses. All should be interested in these fashions because of the new length ushering in the Fall season. You know, it is up to us to set the pace for the winter guests that will be arriving soon!! | From the Bridge Group comes the news that the winners of the Bridge Group, Thursday, September 11 were Mrs. T. Ralph Coard and Mrs. Ralph Block. The winners of the Contract Group Friday, September 12 were Mr. Alfred Elgie and Mrs. Wallace Foulks. Monday night, September 15 winners were Mrs. Kitty Rhonds and Mrs. Joseph Fitzpatrick, (North and South) and Mrs. Hazel Oehler and Mrs. Ollie Railsback, (East and West). | Next Concert | Tuesday, September 30 is the date of the next scheduled Philharmonic Concert at the Country Club. The soloist for this performance will be Charlotte Amidon, Oboist and the J. P. Riddle Foundation has selected "Etude for Orchestra" by Frank Linale. | Friday, Sept. 19-Rotary Club Luncheon, 12:15 p.m. Civic Room; Contract Bridge, 8 p.m. Card Room; First National Bank of Miami-Dance, 9 to 12m. Patio. | Saturday, Sept. 20-Roslyn Albury's Luncheon, 1 p.m.; Club Dance, 9 to 1 a.m. | Sunday, Sept. 21- Dinner and Music, 6 to 9 p.m. | Monday, Sept. 22 - Duplicate Bridge, 8 p.m. Card Room. | Tuesday, September 23-Kiwanis Club Luncheon, 12:15 p.m. Civic Room; Contract Bridge, 1:30 p.m. Card Room; Country Club Circus; Optimists Club Dinner, 6:30 p.m. Civic Room. | Wednesday, Sept. 24 - Lions Club Luncheon, 12:15 p.m. Civic Room; Buffet Supper, 7 to 9 p.m.; Costume Party in form of Beach Party, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Tuckerman, chairmen; Club Dance, 9 to 12M. | Thursday, Sept. 25 - Duplicate Bridge, 1:15 p.m. Card Room; Board of Directors' Dinner and Meeting, 6:30 p.m. Red Room.
BARBARA STANWYCK is in the arms of RICHARD CONTE in this scene from "The Other Love" a thrilling psychological drama which also features David Niven. Starting Friday, Sept. 19th at the Parkway Theatre, the program also features a New March of Time, "Turkeys 100 Million."
