Dr. Marshall Completes New Novel; Due For Publication In November
If rushing final revisions on a new novel, correcting galley proofs and almost daily consultations with publishers constitute a "vacation", then Dr. and Mrs. Harry I. Marshall have just returned from one—at Rockport, Me. The Marshalls, whose home is at 1026 Hardee Road, devoted a busy summer to Dr. Marshall's latest literary work, "Naw Su, A Story of Burma," which will be published early in November by the Falmouth Publishing House of Portland, Me. The novel tells the story of a Burma girl, born under most primitive conditions during a monsoon, who proves to be a storm center in all her life. After running away to school, falling in love, and enduring a full measure of personal struggles, "Miss Storm" returns to help her people out of isolation and into participation in the life of the whole country.
Gables Presbyterian
In preparation for the period of Visitation, October 5-9, with Rev. Cecil Thompson, D.D. of Decatur, Ga. leading, the Sundays, September 21 and 28 have been designated as loyalty Sundays. In announcing loyalty Sundays for the Gables Presbyterian Church, the Rev. B. M. Larson, D.D., pastor, stated that every member of the church, unless Providentially hindered would attend church services on these Sundays, bringing with him one or more visitors. Dr. Larson announced that his sermon topic for next Sunday 11 a.m. church service held in the Merrick Demonstration School, 39 Zomora Ave., would be "Church Loyalty". He will say in part, "It is in the crisis moments of National History that we learn the larger meaning of national loyalty. When the nation places itself with all its resources on the side of a cause, loyalty takes on new meaning. In such hours we are called on to give ourselves and all that we have to win the war. Can we do less in our loyalty to the church? Our church has declared itself on the side of the cause of Christ. Surely in this cause we will give ourselves and all that we have that with Christ we may win in this cause, in which Christ has so completely given Himself. Can we do less?" The Session announced that the Church will institute a nursery training school for children of preschool age while their parents are attending the morning worship service. The Woman's Organization of the Church has accepted this as one of their projects. A trained well equipped person has been procured to organize and conduct this school each Sunday morning 11:00 to 12:00 o'clock. A room apart from the Auditorium has been procured for this school. A piano is available, and provision has been made that these children may have a delightful happy experience, together on a Christian level, while their parents are at worship in the Sunday morning worship service. This service for little children is supplementary to the work of the Sunday School, which operates with a children's division with classes for the different ages, and designed to aid the development of the Christian Home and family.

MARKETING with Marjorie
School days mean homework for mothers as well as for their offspring...what with lunch boxes to pack and after-school snacks to fix. And this kind of homework requires a lot of thought, too, if you want to win honors (and help your children grow up healthy). So let's start concentrating on A and P... NEIGHBORHOOD MARVEL When I'm fresh out of cake and cookies and the youngsters come trooping in from school, hungry for something sweet and with a young army at their heels, I take a loaf of A&P's MARVEL ENRICHED WHITE BREAD (which I always keep in the bread drawer). It's so full of the vitamins and minerals children need; cut the crusts from the bread and dip them into condensed milk and then into shredded coconut. After browning these rounds lightly in a moderate oven, 350°F., I put them together in pairs with preserves between. MAKE 'EM BEAM WITH BEANS! If your children think baked beans are "on the beam", they'll beam at the sight of sandwiches filled with cold ANN PAGE BEANS from the A&P mixed with chopped celery, some fried bacon and a little chopped pickle and salad dressing. OF SCHOLARS AND DOLLARS For satisfying the big appetites that small fry develop in school, foods from the A&P are in a class by themselves! It's a huge class, too...including hundreds of good things that promote good health from kindergarten to college. In- cidentally, if you've started a col- lege fund for your "young hope- ful," you can save plenty of money for it by marketing at your A&P, where prices are low every day. OH WHAT A PICKLE! Firm, ripe cantaloupe that ends up in a pickle makes a grand garnish! Boil 31⁄2 lbs. (pared and sectioned) in salted water till tender. Drain. Mix 2 cups sugar, 1 cup vinegar, 1⁄2 cup water and 1 tbsp. A&P's ANN PAGE WHOLE MIXED SPICES FOR PICKLING. Boil about 5 min- utes. Add drained cantaloupe and cook gently 5 to 10 minutes. Pack in clean hot jars and seal at once.
