Gables Wants Metro Help To Pay Stadium Damage

Members of the Coral Gables Stadium Committee met with County Manager Irving McNayr Friday and were too meet again this week with the County School Board to seek help in paying stadium expenses. "We need $8,000 to pay for damage caused by hurricane Donna," Ira (Dutch) Willard said. Willard, who heads the committee, was accompanied by Mayor Robert Searle, Larry Larrimore, James Barney and Ernie Seiler at last Friday's meeting. McNayr told the committee that he would confer with the County Recreation Department to see what could be done. Approximately $5,500 to $6,000 of the money sought was actual hurricane damage, Willard said. The remaining $2,000 would be used to improve the facility. Coral Gables Stadium is owned by the city, but operated by the committee under a corporate charter.
