Time Stands Still On Parking Meters

A poll of downtown merchants has failed to show a p lominant sentiment either way on changes in parking time limits on Miracle Mile and on block on each of the Mile on Ponce de Leon Boulevard. The City Commission May 9 passed a resolution changing parking time limits there from one hour to 11⁄2 hours. The plan, but not yet put in effect, was to alter meters to give n minutes instead of 12 for a penny, 45 rather than 1 hour for a nickel and 11⁄2 hours for a dime. But the Traffic and Parking Committee of the Chamber of Commerce Tuesday night voted to recommend to the city that the one-hour limit remain. The Committee also recommended that use of stop watches to insure that overtime I ters got an extra two minutes be terminated because the procedure is misconstrued by the public. Of 58 merchants responding to the poll, conducted by the Retail Merchants Division, voting was divided, 23-24, on changing the time limit from one hour to 11⁄2 hours. Eleven merchants indicated other preferences.

One for the Road

Harry Rath, principal of Coral Gables High School, is in a button busting mood — he landed a 70-pound tarpon over the week end off Everglades City. The five-foot, four-inch beauty, soon to adorn some favorite wall, was landed just as Rath and his fishing party of athletic coaches were heading home.
