CG Federal Gets 5 Stories-for Now

Coral Gables Federal Savings and Loan Association got approval Tuesday to build a five-story addition alongside its present three-story building. The financial firm had sought six stories, but the City Commission decided to hold the line at five until the results of a proposed planning study of high rise buildings is completed. Other five-story buildings had been approved in the past. Rodney Miller, vice president, told the Commission he would gamble on the results of the plannning report and go ahead with plans for a six-story building. "We'd like to get the building started this year because we need it," Miller told the commission. Coral Gables Federal bought an additional 25 feet immediately south of its building on the southeast corner of Avenue Andalusia and Ponce de Leon Boulevard for its expansion program. Miller said the present building was being outstripped by growth and the present building could not be added on.

Shrimp Dragnet

Gables police are looking for thieves with a strong craving for shrimp or money-or both. Several thousand pounds of the tasty morsels were reported stolen from Henderson's Portion Pak Inc., 4015 Laguna St. last week. Gables police reported the theft of $4,500 worth of shrimp from the same firm more than two months ago.
