Lecture Tonight
Dr. Frank G. Slaughter, author and lecturer, will speak on "Florida's First Hundred Years" at a meeting of the Historical Association of Southern Florida to-night (Thursday) at 8 o'clock in the Coral Gables High School auditorium.
Objections Cause Move At Riviera
The Riviera Country Club will get its new tennis courts — but not where it wanted them. City Commissioners Tuesday bowed to the objections of a half dozen neighboring residents and property owners who contended the placement of the courts as planned would devaluate their property or cause a nuisance. The club which has a $330,000 modernization program going, had asked tht the three new courts be permitted party north of the existing three courts, but the Commission okayed them west of the present location. Members of the Zoning Board had approved the original proposal.
Shell City Gets Okay For Move
A minor change in location for a liquor store was approved by the City Commission Tuesday on a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner C. L. Dressel Jr. voting against it. Shell City, Inc. asked to move its present store from 934-36 South Dixie Hwy., to a proposed building they plan to build on Lots 18 to 21 inclusive, Block 198, "Riviera Part 14" which is immediately behind the present store. George J. McKelvey, executive vice president, said the present property is too small and unsuitable. Shell recently bought the store, still known as Campus Liquors.
