by helen reynolds society editor. Virginia (Mrs. Mervyn L.) Ames, 812 Ortega Ave., says she doesn't care about eating steak with chop-sticks. Seems she and her husband thought it would be something new and a different way to entertain old friends, Mr. and Mrs. William Higbie, who were down from New York for a vacation in the sun. Friday night, the Ameses took their guests to the Carriage Club, Miami Springs Villas. They ordered Japanese steak and were given chopsticks with which to eat. In her soft spoken voice, Virginia said, "It was kinda hard to manage, but we had no choice." Mr. and Mrs. Ames have lived in Coral Gables for five yaers coming here from New York. They take and enjoy reading the Times so much, she says. Mr. Ames, an attorney is a captain in the Naval Reserve. * * * Mrs. George H. Salley, 805 Palermo Ave., and Mrs. Arnold A. Ross, 5441 Riviera Dr., were hostesses at a champagne breakfast Monday at 11 o'clock at the home of the Rosses. Honor guest was Mrs. Waldo Kelleigh of Weyland, Mass., who with her husband has been visiting and wintering here for the past three months. The Ross home, a large Colonial-type with tiled floors and Wedgwood blue decor, really has something in its swimming pool, set in a Grecian garden overlooking the waterway. Old friends of the Kelleighs are Judge and Mrs. Ray Pearson of Miami Shores and Mr. and Mrs. Shelby P. Langston of Miami Beach. Both Mrs. Pearson and Mrs. Langston were in the receiving line to welcome the some 75 guests. Mrs. Kenneth Kirby of 533 Minorca Ave. and Wildwood, N.J., gave her annual St. Valentine Day luncheon and bridge party Saturday at her Gables home. Red gladioli and white chrysanthemums were decorations in keeping with the day, and the hostess wore a white linen sheath dress with corsage of red carnations. Guests included Mrs. Paul Urquhart and Mrs. W. C. Hunt, of New Jersey, Mrs. John Tempest of Wildwood Crest, N.J.; Mrs. Chris Sidebottom, of Ocean City, N.J., and Mrs. Lowell Dale of Ontario, Canada.
