Monarch Motors' John Rinehart is back in his Bird Road office after a hospital bout with what he describes as an "occupational disease." For an auto man, this is ulcers. ★ ★ ★ District Manger W. L. Gale of Southern Bell tells about a 1962 safety program called "Safety Circle Check" which began Monday. This check will consist of circle of each company vehicle before driving away. The idea is to check for children, toys or animals which could cause accidents. ★ ★ ★ McCall and Joseph have opened their new real estate office at 260 Andalusia Ave. Tom McCall formerly operated a general real estate and insurance agency in the Greater Harrisburg, Pa., area before moving to Florida. He has been with Keyes Co. and Mickler-Lyden. Ivan N. Joseph was associated with Max Lipsky on the Beach. ★ ★ ★ Edson E. Foster joined Arthur R. Mogge Inc., advertising agency. Foster, who lives in the Gables, was vice president of William M. Spire Advertising here. ★ ★ ★ Walter D. Hanford, 1014 Granada Blvd., has been awarded a diploma from Vale Technical Institute at Blairsville, Pa. Hanford, claim representative for State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. in Miami, has just returned from a three-weeks advanced training course. ★ ★ ★ George H. Monahan, 439 Malaga Ave., has been named managing editor of The Voice, Catholic diocese newspaper. He was news editor. Monahan, a Miami newspaper reporter for some years, is confined to a wheelchair because of paralysis but it fails to slow him down. Incidentally, the Monahans' son George is a Times carrier. ★ ★ ★ S. S. Kresge Co.'s newest Florida store will be in Dadeland Shopping Center when the center opens this fall. Kresge, which operates 784 stores around the country, will have 25,000 square feet in a self-service operation. ★ ★ ★ Gordon E. Galloway and William H. Glassford, associates of the Walter M. Pierce general agency for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., have completed two weeks of specialized training at Springfield, Mass. Galloway, a native of Texas and graduate of the University of Miami, lives at 8740 SW 21st St. Glassford, a graduate of the University of Miami, lives at 15805 SW 88th Ave. ★ ★ ★ Kenneth E. Kamberg, executive vice president, Coral Gables Federal Savings and Loan Association has been appointed Chairman of the 1962 Investment and Mortgage Lending Committee of the United States Savings and Loan League.

1962's Construction Is Ahead Of 1961's

Construction in Coral Gables is approximately a half million dollars ahead of last year for the first two months. The two-month total reported by Building Official R. S. Fralick is $1,640,725. Last year at the same time the total stood at $1,107,575. February's total, aided by a $376,750 permit for the new Publix Supermarket and store building on Le Jeune Road and Andalusia Avenue, was $1,039,851. The balance of construction was made up of 10 residences, $276,000; three duplexes, $87,000; 12 additions, $53,925; one store, $16,000; three alterations, $5,900; two pools, $6,000; and 170 miscellaneous, $218,276.

New Service Station Planned For Giralda

Construction on the new General Tire service station at 10 Giralda Ave. led the list of building permits issued by the Coral Gables Building Department last week totaling $89,898. The $54,000 permit, exclusive of land values, had been the subject of opposition by the Elks Club and nearby property owners before approval by the City Commission. Other permits went to Dr. and Mrs. John F. Gibby, 806 Parma Ave., addition, $18,265. Mr. and Mrs. P. Russello, 1510 Delgado Ave., screen enclosure, $1,500.
