City Makes List Of What It Wants From Uncle Sam

Coral Gables Tuesday applied for federal aid on four projects totalling more than $1.5 million. The U.S. Government would foot half the cost of the capital improvements under the Housing and Home Financing Agency. Here's what the Gables hopes to get backing for: 1. The new library, $400,000 to $450,000. 2. Ponce de Leon Boulevard Improvement District, $300,000. 3. SS-8 Sanitary Sewer District, $320,000. 4. Parking Garage, $520,000. Three of these projects have been okayed by the Commission—The Library, the parking garage and Ponce de Leon Improvement District. The library is being redesigned to fit the new site behind the City Hall in the parking lot. (See other story on selection of library site.)

Septic Tank On Side Or Front Only

Future installations of septic tanks will have to be made in the front or side of structures, Gables city commissioners decided Tuesday. They passed on first reading an ordinance that would prohibit installation of septic tanks in the rear of structures. According to City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr., the requirement will make all future hookups to sanitary sewers simpler. The ordinance will affect future construction only.
