Teaching Best Way To Learn
The "teacher" finished reading to the pupils, smiled contentedly and slowly closed his book. His 15-minute-long class was over. The "teacher" then coughed rather ceremoniously. And with all the authority a sixth grader could muster, he said, "I am now turning the class back over to Miss Smith." This scene did not actually happen. But it's fairly similar to what does occur when the Future Teachers' Club goes into action at Everglades Elementary School, 8375 SW 16th St. Fifth, Sixth Graders Each school day for 15 minutes, a club member, who must be a fifth or sixth grader, steps into a teacher's classroom, whose pupils are always first or second graders. The whole idea of the 25-member club, now in its second year, is to encourage pupils interested in teaching. And it's happened that a child has joined the club with only a passing interest in teaching, only to become fascinated with the field, said principal Esther Kazer. The future teacher's task isn't too hard. He might read a story, or lead the pupils in games, or even drill them in certain parts of their classroom work. But it's not too easy to be eligible for the club. A pupils to have good grades - nothing below a C - and possess a high degree of self-control. Club Members The club's members are Raymond Shenfield, Julian Kreisberg, Debbie Friedson, Shari Halberg, Arlene Dale. Also, Billi Kaplan, Kathy Sands, Kathy Hendricks, Ronnie Kemper, Nancy Daves, Anne Steinberg, Elaine Ellison. And, Alice Kornegay, Susan Breslow, Paulette Goodman, Linda Crocitte, Jeanne Beck, Francine Fodiman, Carol Sarisky, Shelly Iteld. Also, Joan Ferguson, Linda Hechtman, Isabel Ralston, Tina Woolf, Rina Cohan.
