World War I Vets Seek Pensions, U.S. Help

The Veterans of World War I, South Miami Barracks 2043, is asking area residents to write Congressmen in their behalf to secure pensions. The barracks, which has about 90 members, says in a resolution passed last week: "The adoption of a pension program for the aging veterans of World War I would provide a definite stimulate to the economy ... "There are some 2.6 million surviving veterans of 1917 and 1918. Nearly half of those who went to answer the call of their country have passed away. Each year sees the ranks decimated by about 125,000. "Average age in our own barracks is 69 years old and we lost three members by death this week. "To many of these veterans who are ill, aged and in dire need, the thought of America playing Santa Claus to the world in the form of billions appropriated for countries which are perhaps only a dot on the map in the minds of the American people, it is not in according with the historical treatment of war veterans of this nation ..." Henry M. Druckman, 3434 SW 76th Ave., is adjutant of the barracks.

STUCK??

Need something done and can find neither the time nor someone to do it? A reliable college student is eager to be a tutor in most high school subjects, a receptionist in a doctor's office (own uniforms), shopper for those who are housebound or want something unique, a traveling companion. If you have any questions or a job, call Kathryn Baldry at JE 2-2333.

MRS. MARION J. Costner is the new president of the Town Club of South Miami. She was installed recently. The club's project is emergency welfare, a project it has maintained since formation in 1946.
