Buzzes From Bowling

By LEE McNEELY Correspondent As happens about this time of the year, The Metro Mixed League had a roll off to break the tie between the Bank of Perrine and the Dixie Fence teams. Dixie Fence closed them in, winning by 53 pins to take the league championship. Chick Spear of the Bank of Perrine team came through with a 205 and 526 set, and not to be outdone, your reporter had a 215-529 set. Her ever lovin' Don came right along with a 190 and 517 set, Des Tulare got right in the grove with a 526 set. The Sunday Night Mixed Doubles already in full swing of things with Des Tulare knocking down 559 sticks; Jim Vickers the scribe of the league had a 203-543 set. Jack Findley, a new bowler has decided the game is easy at times, had 199 and a 503 set, with his handicap Jim had a 662. In the Friday night Coconut Grovers league, Lou Funke rolled a 211 for a 591 set, which gave him the high handicap set of 699. Lou had every one hopping for he is having difficulty with his right hand, so now he is bowling left handed. Henry Kirk rolled a 223 game. Our Heart Fund League really started off with a big bang. Lou Mandragona's second game had everyone on edge, 11 in a row then up popped the 6-10 to ruin his 300 game. Lou put to-gether games of 194-298-198 for a 690 set. Dave Metzger - 602, Bill Haley - 613, Chic Chilson - 617, Paul Fisher - 607, Red Mitchell - 609, Ben Keith - 602 and Jim Chesnutt with a 616. Hal Calfax came along with a pretty 268 game and 647 set, Chuck Smrt - 608 and Joe DelBreno rolled a 601. All of you bowlers who have been looking for a good time to watch the best, come on down on Friday nights at 9 p.m., and watch the Heart Fund League bowl its heart out. The Bowling Bees ladies' handicap Putt Putt team won the championship, congratulations to Nell Julia, Sue Smith, Dottie Funke and Lil du Brucq. The South Dixie Ladies' Peterson Point Singles had their first round Thursday night with Selma Hall coming through with a 212, Dottie Balke a 208 and Lil DuBruecq a 500 set. I don't want to get my carrier in trouble (he's a nice boy) but last week the paper got wet before we got to it. But it didn't bother us. I told my wife as I left for work, "Dry it out in the oven." Don't be a non-believer; don't be a non-subscriber. You'll find sparkle in the NEW Coral Gables TIMES 364 Sevilla Ave., Coral Gables HI 3-1661
