South Miami Buying Ludlam Site for New Garage
City of South Miami last Tuesday night passed on first and second readings an ordinance authorizing the purchase of a former new and used car agency and garage facilities at SW 80th Street and Ludlam Road to be used as a new city garage. Purchase price for the three lots and buildings at the location is $175,000. The city is purchasing the parcel from L. E. Talcott & Sons, Inc., which constructed buildings there several years ago for an Edsel Dealership. Since discontinuance of the Edsel line by the Ford Motor Co., the buildings and land were leased to Othling-Williams, Plymouth car dealers. Othling-Williams has since constructed facilities at 3199 Coral Way. The city will pay Talcott & Sons, Inc., $50,000 at the time of closing and the remainder in five equal annual payments. The facilities are being purchased for garage, workshop, maintenance areas, storage areas and recreation facilities. The city has outgrown its present garage facilities at 5800 SW 72nd Ave.
