with Ed Knight SLEEP, SWEET sleep, nature's means of winding us up for the coming day, is one of the dearest of men's needs. It covers a man all over, thoughts and all, like a cloak. It is meat for the hungry, drink for the thirsty, heat for the cold and cold for the warm. It makes the poor man equal to the rich man and the fool equal to the wise. IT IS THE nap before dinner, the snooze before the television set, the rest on the couch, the Sunday afternoon slumber and the rainy day rest. Fishing was the reason, much to the chagrin of my family. The fisherman will take many things — heavy seas, wet clothes, cold coffee and warm beer — but he never forgives another fisherman for getting him up before dawn. The mornings I arise early are the darkest of nights. I lay awake half of the night wondering what is the hour. WHEN THE alarm finally goes off, I make a wild scramble to push it off. I return to the bed, rub my eyes, scratch my head and think of sleep, sweet sleep. No lights, no, can't put on any lights. That would wake up the whole house. Those socks must be Continued on Page 16
