Residents Play Part In Developin
Residents of Coral Gables and the Southwest area have played a major role in the development of Dade County's newest medical facility, Cedars of Lebanon Hospital. The hospital was three years in the planning and building stages. The $4,500,000 medical facility has added 282 beds and 30 bassinets to the hospital units in this area. Chairman of the board of the hospital is Stanley C. Myers, of 3620 Granada Blvd. President of the hospital is Samuel T. Sapiro of 6340 Riviera Drive. Among the vice presidents are Samuel Luby and Ben Novack of Southwest Miami and David Stuzink, 3710 Toledo Dr. Secretary is Harold Thurman of 3801 Riviera Drive. S. K. Bronstein of 7750 SW 4th St., South Miami, is the hospital administrator. On the Board of Trustees of the hospital, more than 50 per cent of the men are residents of Coral Gables, Coconut Grove or Southwest Miami. These include Sidney Aronovitz, Elliott Blumenthal, Herbert Gerlernter, Sidney Langer, Sidney Lefcourt, L. E. Goldman, Col. Nathan B. Rood, Robert Russell, Samuel J. Spector and Joseph Garfield. Mrs. Samuel T. Sapiro of Coral Gables is chairman of the women's division of the Cedars of Lebanon development fund. But the Gables, Southwest
PGA Net May Hit $29,000
This year's PGA Golf Tournament will net the City approximately $29,000 toward the cost of sponsoring it, former Mayor and Chairman John M. Montgomery said Tuesday. The initial cost is the $25,000 the City puts up for prize money. The tourney, the third to be sponsored by the City, will get underway Dec. 6 with the Pro-Am and ends Dec. 10. Mayor Robert L. Searle, who suggested proclaiming the week - "Golf Week" - reported patron ticket sales well ahead of last year at this time. "It's in good shape," reported Montgomery. Montgomery reported that 104 patron tickets at $150 each have been sold, 35 more are committed, with a possible total of 145. Last year, 113 patronages were sold. The City has been making up any deficit, but the event has brought thousands of persons to Coral Gables and the publicity value has been great, backers say.
