Queen Julliette Heisser Reigns over SW High's Homecoming

By JOY CHERRY Correspondent | Julliette Heisser, Southwest's third Homecoming Queen, reigned over the season's traditional activities. The Homecoming game, parade, and dance highlighted her rule. Julie has won beauty honors since the ninth grade - and has held several offices of responsibility. She is Student Council vice-president, co-captain of the cheerleaders, and is also student president of the P.T.S.A. She is a member of Modern Music Masters and Thespians. Julie was art Aquila princess in her sophomore year and a Homecoming princess last year. Her four senior princesses lead active student lives. Dark-haired, hazel-eyed Frances Opitz was an Aquila princess last year. For two years she has served on the Student Council and is an enthusiastic varsity cheerleader this year. Sheryl Stoddard was a semi-finalist in the Miss Teenage America contest and served as hostess at the crowning of the queen. She was a sophomore princess and a junior Aquila princess. This year she is president of Future Homemakers of America. Sandra is serving her third year on the Homecoming Court. She was an Aquila princess in her freshman year. Sandra is a member of Future Homemakers of America and ALLIES. A raven-haired, gray-eyed princess is Mary Ann Luther. She was a cheerleader and a majorette in the high school she attended in Dallas, Texas. She served on the junior board last year. WARREN, EDITOR Leslie Warren has been named Aquila editor-in-chief, Sally Kitchin and Janet Katz are co-editors. All three are seniors. Other positions are divisional pages, Barbara Fritzsche; front section, Pam Carey, Sally Kitchin; calendar, Leslie Warren, Deanne Manship. Senior co-editors, Robin Mason, Wallie Fay; junior editors, Helen Hancock, Peggy Brantly; sophomore editors, Sharon Heck, Ann Hinds; honor societies, Pam Goodman, Jerri Knight. Faculty, Peggy Lee, Vonna Zelner; features, Barbara Dal Pra, Angela Halas; sports, Curtis Hamblin, Bill White. Advertising, Pat Dwyer; art layouts, Janet Katz, Kathie Garry; writeups, Elaine Schafer, Marcia Money; circulation, Dave Thompson. HIGH BOWLER Bill Hansen Jr. bowls 'em over. Holding a high average of 194, a high game of 275, and a high series of 736, Bill bowled games of 238, 246 and 219 recently in the Bird Bowl Classic League finishing with a total of 693. Bill has received many honors in five years of bowling. Among them are City Championship at Sportsman Show in 1957; winner in doubles event in city and state for AJBC and received fifth place in the nation. In the summer of 1960, Bill took home second place trophy in Young America Bowlerama at Los Angeles. Bill is a member of the Farm House Classic League, a men's league with the top bowlers and prize money in Miami. DELEGATE Donna Fouch was the only Dade County high school representative to the Red Cross Southeastern Area Youth Advisory Council meeting in Atlanta, Nov. 12-14. She was one of seven selected to plan programs for chapters in Southeastern United States. Donna is a Junior Red Cross Hospital Aide with 500 hours to her credit at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She is the first delegate chosen from Dade County in four years to serve on the council. CROSS-COUNTRY Track Coach Bill Mihm, although not enthusiastic about this year's one-win season, is quite hopeful over next year's possibilities. Coach Mihm was particularly enthusiastic about sophomores Cal Minkler and Bill Engler, "I'm sure that these boys will make outstanding distance runners," said the coach. Also doing an outstanding job are Barry Eber and Tom Radkiwitz. Other members of the team are Ed Thatcher, Bill Scott, Tom Hamontree, Dick Wood, Dave Soto, Charles Sullivan Rome, Stan McKuhn, Bev Light, and Terry Kelly.
