Busy Wednesday Awaits Junior Woman's Club
Members of the Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club will take advantage of two meetings Wednesday. A morning one will be held at 9:30 at the home of Mr. George Wilson, 510 Barbarossa Ave., and a luncheon program meeting of the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs at the Coral Gables Woman's Clubhouse. Mrs. Wilson, a member of the Coral Gables Garden Club and of Ikebana International, Coral Gables Chapter will give lessons on flower arrangements with several specimens on view. Members are asked to bring flat containers, scissors and their own flowers and fern. They will take their finished products for display at the luncheon. Guest Speaker At the luncheon program, Mrs. Laurence A. Schroeder, 500 Alhambra Cir., will be guest speaker. Her topic will be "You Are Their Hope." Honored guests will be Mrs. Wendell G. Sellers, Mrs. E. D. Pearce, Mrs. Herbert R. Savage, Mrs. Wyatt O. Crane and Mrs. Louis Stajdel, president of the Coral Gables Woman's Club. Friday, six members of the Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club and their husbands entertained 23 Science students from Ecuador. These students were picked up at their hotel and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Bell, 6601 SW 128th St., for an evening of the American way of entertaining. Prepared Food The six couples of the Junior Women prepared and served all the food and handled all transportation for these students, 21 boys and 2 girls, their chaperones, guides and interpreters. The students are on a month's tour of the Eastern part of the United States. Miami was the last city they visited before returning to Ecuador.
Point Of Order
Mrs. Raymond Jenkins of Coral Gables will present the program, "Point of Order and Appeal," Monday, when the Miami Parliamentary Law Unit meets at the home of Mrs. William B. Buchanan, 480 NE 29th St.
Golfers At Riviera Announce Officers
Mrs. A. M. Franklin was elected chairman of the Riviera Country Club Women's Golf Association at its annual meeting and luncheon held Tuesday, following a nine hole low net tournament. Mrs. Franklin is the 14th chairman elected since the association was formed in 1947. Mrs. Phil J. Laurence was elected golf chairman. Other officers elected were Mrs. Robert C. Piper, secretary and MRS. A. M. FRANKLIN Mrs. David L. Hulzman, treasurer. Chairmen Named Chairmen named are Mrs. Ernest Hewett, publicity; Mrs. A. L. Lancaster, hostess; Mrs. R. C. Houser, prizes; Mrs. John Vines Hardeman, year book; Mrs. Charles Zablocki, Sunday events; Mrs. George Duvall, historian; Mrs. Thomas Cook, social; Mrs. Otis Dunan, handicap; Mrs. Gene Goble, ringer, and Mrs. E. E. Butler Jr., tournament. Prizes were also awarded those tournament players who have won one or no prizes during the year. They were Mrs. Gene Goble and Mrs. Jack Straessley, who broke 90; Mrs. John McKinley, Mrs. R. C. Houser and Mrs. Ben Fuqua, who broke 100. Their scores were 96, 99 and 98 respectively. Rules For Procedure Mrs. L. W. Dowlen and Mrs. Phil J. Laurence, who had been asked to go over the Rules for Procedure made their report. The club reports 138 members in the WGA of the Riviera Country Club. In the Tuesday tournament, Mrs. Henry Russell won in Class A with a 43; Mrs. Sam Anderson won in Class B with a 39, and in a tie for second place with a 43 score were Mrs. John Ajac and Mrs. Beryl Thouvenelle. In Class C, three members, Mrs. Francis Sams, Mrs. Harold Hausmann and Mrs. Harvey Elwood, tied with a 43.
ROAL Names Mrs. Keifer
Mrs. William Keifer, 1125 Aduana Ave., is the 1961 president of ROAL (Reserve Officers Association Ladies) for the coming year. This active group, whose main project is a monthly contribution to the emergency fund, Coral Gables Veterans Administration Hospital, met at the home of Mrs. Claude Wilson, 59 Romano Ave., where plans were made for the coming year. A benefit bridge party was held in early October at the home of Mrs. Daniel Wick, 8325 SW 62nd Pl., South Miami.
New Members Are Welcomed
New members welcomed at a recent meeting of the Hi Neighbor Club include Miss Blanche Bagley, Mrs. Mahlon Clark, Mrs. Bertram Collins, Mrs. Dorothy Graves, Mrs. Bina Power, Mrs. J. C. Steinberg, Mrs. Lawrence Tannehill, Mrs. James R. Walsh and Mrs. J. C. Welmot. The meeting with lecture and colored slides of Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Steinberg's two year trip around the world was held at the Candlelight Inn.
Holiday Decorations
Mrs. Charles W. McWethy of Coral Gables will demonstrate "Holiday Decorations," as guest speaker of the Coral Pines Garden Club meeting at 10 a.m. Monday at Suniland Banquet Room. Donation of $1.25 will benefit th Suniland Youth Center.
Elizabeth Polk Semifinalist In Merit Test
Elizabeth A. Polk, of 9001 SW 65th Ct., enrolled at Walnut Hill School, Natick, Mass., is one of eight seniors honored for outstanding performance on the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The eight students and semifinalists make up less than three percent of all high school seniors across the country. Each commended student will receive a letter of commendation from his principal and the president of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Nine Pledge UF Sororities
Nine Coral Gables coeds at the University of Florida have been chosen as new pledges by seven national sororities. The girls and their sorority affiliations are: Charlene Hermann and Karen Ann Stoltz, Alpha Delta Pi; Susan Eschlemann, Alpha Chi Omega; Judy Kapner, Alpha Epsilon Phi; Carol Jaeger, Delta Gamma; Patricia Simon, Delta Phi Epsilon; Michele Dehiart and Ingrid Hallberg, Zeta Tau Alpha; and Carol Kendrick, Sigma Kappa.
