HENRY Students Organize SWAUN The first meeting of the SWAUN, Southwest Association of United Nations, was Feb. 8. This club of 30 charter members is sponsored by Mrs. Jay Luckett. Mr. Luckett stated, "The primary project of the club is an effort to establish a foreign exchange student program. We will be among the first high schools in the Southeast to undertake such a program." This organization was pioneered entirely by students. Most active in the development are Joe Mosier, Vic Theiling, Ephriam Newmark, Gordon Jobe, Leslie Forrest and Stephen Berlinsky. The club is sponsored by the Coral Gables chapter of the American Association for the United Nations, which was founded by its current president, Miss Agnes Crabtree. Essays Win Mention Marty Ketchum and Linda Hood in Mrs. Helen Wheeler's sophomore honors English class received honorable mention for their essays, "How to Keep the Flame of Freedom Burning." Woman Leaves Apartment Sale Proceeds To UM
The University of Miami has been presented with proceeds of the sale of an apartment building from the estate of the late Mrs. Myrtle Taylor Bradford, pioneer Miami art patron. The $25,000 gift presented Friday, Feb. 10, to UM president Jay F. W. Pearson by J. McGibben Brown and Robert Draper, trustees for the estate, will be used to establish the Myrtle Taylor Bradford Memorial Art Scholarship Fund for UM students. Mrs. Bradford died Dec. 12, 1958. Her will specified that Brown and Draper should determine if the Coronado Apartments building, 249 NE 17th Ter., was suitable for use as a museum for the Miami Art League. If not, the building was to be sold and the proceeds donated to the University for the specific fund. The trustees, both former presidents of the Miami Art League, decided conversion of the building to a museum was not economically feasible.
