JAMES WHITE James H. White, 6901 Bar- quera, has been elected presi- dent of the Dade Common- wealth Title Insurance Co. White, 36, is the youngest man ever to head what is re- ported to be Dade County's old- est title insurance company. He was named executive vice presi- dent of the firm last year and has been associated with the company since 1953. Dade Commonwealth has be- come the largest independently owned title insurance company in South Florida through a series of mergers and acquisi- tions since the original charter was issued in 1903 to the Dade County Abstract Company. Last year its title insurance and es- crow department's business tot- aled more than $33,000,000 in property transactions. White lives in Coral Gables with his wife and children. He is a graduate of the University of Miami Law School and a member of the Florida and the Federal Bar Associations. Dade Commonwealth employ- ees more than 70 persons. In addition to its main offices in downtown Miami, at 139 NE 1st St., it maintains branches in Coral Gables and on upper Bis- cayne Blvd.

City National Increases Capital 10,000 Shares

To increase protection for its customers, and due to the great addition to deposits the past year, the stockholders of City National Bank of Coral Gables recently voted to increase its capital by 10,000 shares, it was announced by Ira F. Willard, president of the bank since Feb. 1. Gain In Deposits The bank gained 26 percent in deposits, from $9,217,000 to $11,610,000, the greatest gain in 1960 of any bank on the Gold Coast in the $10,000,000-up class. In fact, only one bank in Flori- da in this class had a greater gain, according to a survey by the Florida Bankers Association. Capital was increased to $600,- 000 and surplus to $400,000 as added security for its 8100 de- positors, Willard said. All directors were re-elected at the annual meeting of stock- holders. Robert M. Altemus was re-named chairman of the board. President Willard an- nounced to the stockholders that trust powers had been granted to the bank by the Fed- eral Reserve System, and that a new trust department would be added to the bank's service some time in March. Abess Named As an indication of the bank's growth, Allan T. Abess, Jr., was named executive vice president and cashier by the board. P. J. Valter was advanced to Vice President. Merle Graser was appointed assistant vice presi- dent. Joining the bank as Assistant to the President is R. L. Budde, 945 Hardee Road. He will head a new department for customer relations.

Free Almanac Spans Years In Communication

Methods of communication spanning the years from ancient Persian runners to space age satellites are featured in the new 1961 Telephone Almanac, now being distributed in Miami. Copies of the booklet are av- ailable at the Coral Gables tele- phone business office, according to Bill Gale, district manager for Southern Bell. The Overland Express, mes- sages carried by gas-filled bal- loons and the first underseas telegraph cable in 1866 are other early methods of communication described in the almanac. How many savings accounts should I have?

That depends on YOU! How well you manage your money...and what you are saving for...are the determining factors in deciding how many accounts you should have at Coral Gables Federal. Separate accounts for each of your major needs is the easy, practical way to "budget for the future"...before the need occurs. First and most important is your Regular Savings Ac- count, providing a general cash reserve for emergencies at any time...accumulating the down payment for a home of your own...assuring security and peace of mind for the years to come. But what about once-a-year expenses like taxes? They can take quite a "chunk" out of your regular savings... opening a Special Tax Account is a more realistic (and painless) way to meet this annual need. The same ap- plies to Christmas and Vacation money...best handled through individual accounts. And for your children, of course, you want to do all you can to help them with their higher education...and the way to do it is through a Special College Savings Ac- count. How else could you meet this future expense? So YOU decide how many savings accounts you need at Coral Gables Federal. Each account - Regular or Special - earns dividends at the current rate of 4% per annum, payable twice a year on December 31 and June 30. Accounts are insured up to $10,000 by a permanent agency of the U.S. Government. And each account en- ables you to "budget for the future"...whatever your needs may be.
