Garland Wayne McDonald, son of Harold G. McDonald of 10970 SW 64th St., has been awarded a George M. Moffet Scholarship by the Whitehall Foundation, Inc. McDonald was employed as a draftsman while living in South Dade and then entered Kentucky Christian College in Grayson, where both he and his wife (the former Cathy Wickline) are studying for degrees in theology. Master of Arms Seaman Apprentice Robert L. White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. White of 2984 SW 123rd Ave., graduated from the Coast Guard Recruit Training Center at Cape May, N.J., July 23. White, a 1973 Southwest High School graduate, was selected as master of arms and recruit company commander. He was appointed drum major and educational supervisor of the recruits under the command of Musician Mate Chief George King III. Dean's list Warren W. Lindsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Lindsey of 1533 Palermo Ave., and Addys Saiez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aristides Saiez of 19710 SW 114th Ave., were among 59 upperclassmen named dean's list for the summer 1976 session at Stetson University. On the honor roll at Stetson for the sumuer term were James Cropper, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Cropper of 6659 SW 65th St., and Deborah Horton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.H. Horton of 6220 SW 108th St. Chicken winners T.R. Sparks of 3790 SW 68th Ave., won a two-day trip to Disney World in a drawing, announced Alex Tsang, owner of Chicken Unlimited, 6757 Bird Rd. Pearl Bough of 4250 SW 67th Ave., won five chicken dinners in the same drawing, while Dianne Chaykin, who lives at 6628 SW 65th St., won three dinners. Music student Susan Kline, daughter of Dr. Marcia G. Kline of 533 Sunset Rd., will pursue special studies in White music, specifically the clarinet, at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. A Coral Gables High School student last year, Susan will be among young men and women, ages 13 to 17, who come from all over the world to attend the academy. Military mentions Midshipman Daniel A. Acton, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin A. Acton of 10770 SW 90th Ave. and Midshipman David P. Karcher, son of Marine Lt. Col. and Mrs. David P. Karcher of 5374 SW 80th St., have both completed the summer training phase of their studies at the Naval Academy. Karcher studied damage control procedures at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and gained first hand experience in shiphandling and seamanship. Acton was one of the 39 midshipmen from the Academy chosen to participate in a special exchange program involving navies from the U.S. and 23 foreign countries. Both young men have returned to Annapolis for further instruction leading toward degrees and commissioning. Navy Aviation Structural Mechanic Airman Terry C. Troup 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Troup of 17205 SW 109th Ct., has returned to Jacksonville after an extended deployment to the Mediterranean as a member of the Air Anti-Submarine Squadron 22.
