Former SD grid star at Dartmouth

Former Florida high school standout, sophomore halfback Jim Eden of Southwest High, was impressive in preseason workouts for the Dartmouth College foobtall team. Eden, the third leading rusher for the freshman squad in 1975, was the most advanced sophomore in camp and hopes to see a lot of playing time this season for the Dartmouth varsity.

SW still looking for football win

By GARY KILBRIDE Southwest High Correspondent With several sports underway this fall, Southwest entered the second month of the school year still trying to develop a winning athletic program. The most successful team so far has been the girls' volleyball squad, which is undefeated in two matches. Liz Francisco and Fay Chea paced the opening 15-9, 15-11 victory over Southridge while Lisa Williams preserved a close 15-13, 5-15, 15-7 triumph against Hialeah. In bowling the Eagles raised their record to 7-1 by taking four straight from South Dade. Mark Martin, Bruce Yanda, and Stan Kodish rolled games of better than 200. Mark McDonald and Omar Medina led the cross country team to victories over Killian and Coral Park, but the squad still possessed a disappointing 2-2 mark. McDonald broke his own school record with a 15:26 clocking with Medina close behind at 15:40. The Eagle gridders took their expected 35-6 drubbing at the hands of Palmetto and remained without a win after four games. Southwest's lone score came on the strength of the passing arm of substitutue quarterback Bobby Owens, who hit Kevin Collins with a 10 yard scoring toss in the final period. The JV team is faring better, winning half of four contests. Halfback Luis Mion tallied twice in a 12-7 triumph over arch rival Killian and once in the 14-0 conquest of Miami Beach. A heartbreaking loss to Palmetto followed in which both squads come from behind several times before the Panthers pulled out a 26-20 win in five overtimes.
