South Dade A ferocious poodle risked its own life to save that of its owners during a burglary attempt at the couple's Perrine home Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 6:12 p.m. Officers said that Raymond Holland, 68, and his wife Carolyn, 55, were at home at 10045 W. Fern St., when two men crept up to the back door. One of the men, armed with a handgun, walked inside and threatened the couple. According to police, Mrs. Holland ran to the front door to set off a burglar alarm, and the man shot at her but missed. With that, the Holland's pet poodle attacked the intruder fiercely. The gunman shot the tiny dog in the left back leg, then ran out empty-handed said police. The poodle was treated at a local hospital and sent home. A 65-year-old South Dade woman apparently shot herself to death at her home Wednesday, Nov. 3. According to police, Otilia Quintana, who lived at 2121 SW 126th Ct., was found dead in her home at 4:45 p.m., from two self-inflicted gunshot wounds. She had reportedly been severely depressed since the death of her husband five years ago. Gordon Crumbley, 19, was robbed in the parking lot of Big Daddy's Lounge, 8003 S. Dixie Hwy., Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 2:10 a.m. Police said that as Crumbley was leaving the lounge, a man approached him and asked him for money. But when he refused, the stranger struck him to the ground, grabbed his jacket and wallet and ran. According to officers, police arrested the suspect shortly later, and he has been identified as Stephen C. Martine, 24, of 9015 SW 62nd Terr. He was charged with strong armed robbery and numerous traffic violations. Barbara Lynch, 42, 16577 Old Cutler Rd., complained to police that someone broke into her home Monday, Nov. 1, between 7:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. and stole several pieces of jewelry. Police said the thief apparently got inside through a bedroom window. John Malloy, 17, 9020 SW 177th Terr., reported to police that someone stole his bicycle from his garage Oct. 23 or 24. Police said the garage door was open. Charles Waxler, 29, 11760 SW 190th Rd., reported to police that someone broke into his home Monday, Nov. 1, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., and ransacked his entire house. Police said that so far, a .38 caliber revolver has been found missing. Robert Dube, 33, 17710 SW 118th Pl., complained to police that someone burglarized his home Monday, Nov. 1, at 3:30 p.m. Police said they are unsure if anything was taken. South Miami Two 19-year-old men were arrested for possession of marijuana at SW 63rd Avenue and 78th Street, Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11:20 p.m. According to officers, David Schramm, a resident of Minnesota, and his companion, Horace Graham, of 115 Ocean Dr., Miami, were charged with a felony and booked into the Dade County Jail. West Dade A number of shoppers' vehicles were vandalized in the parking lot of Dadeland Shopping Center recently, according to police. Officers said that Harriet Hart, 54, had one of her tires slashed Tuesday, Oct. 26, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Hector Garateix, 46, had his front windshield shattered Friday, Oct. 29, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.; and Raymond Rousseau, 43, had all four wire spoke hubcaps stolen from his 1977 Coupe de Ville Cadillac Friday, Oct. 29, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Also, police said, 26-year-old Sharon Hudge, of northwest Dade, was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 3, and charged with stealing three suits and one shirt from Burdines's Department store the same day. Officers said the woman reportedly bit a security officer on left the arm as she escaped from the store. She was arrested at her home several hours later. Guillermo Guerra, 41, 2400 SW 62nd Ave., reported to police that someone broke into his home Wednesday, Nov. 3, between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., and stole an electric typewriter, a tape recorder and a television. Police said the thief apparently pried open the office door. Kirk Munroe, 27, 8213 SW 72nd Ave., complained to police that someone tried to break into his apartment Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 7:45 a.m. Officers said a burglar apparently tried to pry open the front door, but was discouraged by a dead bolt lock. Mildred Hokun, 69, 7812 SW 35th Terr., reported to police that she woke up Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 7 a.m. and discovered that her back door was missing a jalousie, and screen had been pushed in. Officers said a burglar was apparently discouraged in his attempt by a chain lock on the door. Elizabeth Trifiletti, 27, who lives at 7001 SW 71st Ave., reported to police that someone stole a ceramic planter containing a dracaena from her front porch Thursday, Oct. 28, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
