The Killer of Jackie Robinson is Still at Large.
Jackie Robinson died of complications caused by juvenile diabetes. For 10 million Americans, including 3 million children, this same killer is still at large and threatening their lives. Because of the serious complications of diabetes, the victim is 25 times more prone to blindness, 17 times more prone to kidney disease, and twice as prone to heart disease. One-half of all juvenile-onset diabetics die within 25 years of their diagnosis, a very grim prospect for the 3 million diabetic children. Any American born today, has a better than 1-in-5 chance of developing this disease. And strong evidence indicates that diabetes and its complications already kill 300,000 people each year.
