Home Show display already a winner
Award-winning, natural rosewood, leather upholstered reception chair on display in New York and (next week) Dinner Key Auditorium. Emiliano Prats lost everything to Fidel Castro, he says, but his sense of humor and his knowledge of good furniture. When he lived in Cuba he had a furniture factory and two stores which, he says, he "donated" to Mr. Castro. Today Prats is vice president of Valley Trading Corp., 1000 Ponce, which distributes prize-winning furniture all over the country. Prats will have some of these award winning pieces on display at the November Home Show at Dinner Key Auditorium Nov. 12 to 17. A reception chair of natural rosewood upholstered in leather (which is exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and won first prize in an international furniture show in Italy) will be on display at Dinner Key. The piece was designed by Sergio Rodriquez and is suitable for home or office. Prats' latest emphasis is on good office design, he says. "The character of a business person is reflected in that person's dress and office," he said. "Furniture shows how the person thinks. He doesn't have to be a connoisseur, but he should have good judgement. He should follow the trend toward light colors and simple lines. This doesn't mean he has to spend more — just use good taste." The office furniture handled by Valley Trading is made in Brazil of fine hardwoods. Prats is enthusiastic about the Brazilian furniture — its clean lines, natural wood. "Furniture used to be hand-carved," he said. "Now it's simple in design. I think it's much better this way." Prats and other exhibitors will be at the Home Show at Dinner Key weekdays from 6 to 10:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 14 from noon to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9:30 p.m. The Home Show closes Wednesday, Nov. 17.
