Political Picket Line

SWEATING IT OUT-The line-up was unconscious, because the polls were still open when this photograph was taken, but the candidates, nevertheless, posed in the order that the voting machine tally indicated they ran. Pictured here are Dave Hendrick, W. Keith Phillips, Andy Healy, Paul Brinson and George Newhard waiting to greet voters outside of city hall.

All's Harmony Here

HAIL HAIL THE GANG'S ALL HERE-This crowd of jubilant supporters of Commissioner-elect Dave Hendrick are pictured at the candidate's home shortly after the results indicated that Hendrick had polled the highest number of commission votes. Hendrick is seated next to Mrs. Hendrick who is playing the piano accompaniment to the victory chant.

To the Victor - the Spoils

A CONGRATULATORY KISS is bestowed on Commissioner-Elect Andrew T. Healy by Mrs. Healy as a crowd of well-wishers add their encouragement. The picture was taken at the post-election celebration at the Healy home. That amazed looking fellow on the left is Walter Wigman, whom Healy recently succeeded as Exalted Ruler of the local Elks Lodge. -all staff photos by Oliver

Mayor, New Commissioners Will Be Installed Today

(Continued from Page One) went to the polls on Tuesday to elect Phillips mayor by a sweeping majority of 1,641 votes to Brinson's 671. Hendrick, the youngest candidate ever to hold office, led the ticket in the commission race with 1,844 votes. Phillips was second with 1,786 and Healy third with 1,468. Hendrick and Phillips won four-year terms and Healy a two-year term. Brinson polled 1,058 votes and George Newhard, 501. A steady procession of voters thronged the city hall all day long Tuesday and 7 o'clock closing time, found a long line still waiting to cast ballots. All voters that had been in line at 7 p.m. were permitted to vote. The campaign was one of the quietest in Gables election history. Hendrick, who led the ticket, had the enthusiastic backing of his fellow Jaycee members and veterans of World War II. Much credit for the record vote was given to the Jaycees who sponsored a "Get-Out-The-Vote" drive with a committee headed by Robert Searle.
