4 Chamber Directors Chosen; Tie for 5th

[M]embers of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce went to the polls Friday to elect five new directors and came up with six when a tie resulted for fifth place. Elected to three-year terms were Ivan R. Cunningham, Robert R. Hildreth, Frank E. Kerdyk and Robert E. Yoxall. What to do about a tie that resulted when Edward F. [I]vn Jr. and Edward T. Rempe each received 65 votes will have to be decided by the board when it meets tonight (Thursday) at the Coral Gables Country Club. Chamber Manager Lee Smith indicated Wednesday that it is probable that both men will be seated because of resignations and other vacancies that occur each year. [L]eaving the board are C. L. ([Jerry] Dressel Jr., O. K. Houstoun Jr., Larry Larimore, Rodney Miller and Albert H. Friedman. Last Year Beat Big Sales, Explosion Mark Bargain Days

Merchants participating in Coral Gables Bargain Days last weekend were pleased with the results. "Some reported increases over the previous year up to 25 per cent," Rick Gillen, director of the Retail Merchants Division of the Chamber of Commerce, said. The weather cooperated both days. There were a couple of unscheduled incidents. Mrs. Katherine Ek had her automobile stolen from the parking lot behind Daniels' Department Store Saturday afternoon when she left the ignition unlocked. The auto was later recovered. William Blonde accidentally discharged a shotgun in Cendy's, 293 Miracle Mile, Friday, but injured only his thumb. Additional details are on page 1.
