We Contract With Metro On Station

Coral Gables finally got its contract with Metro on operation of the Auto Inspection Station at Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Le Jeune Road. City Attorney Ted Semple and City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. had been negotiating on and off for a year with the county, which has jurisdiction over traffic law enforcement. Under the terms of the contract, the city will retain all profits, less the cost of inspection stickers, which Metro furnishes. The contract is on a year-to-year basis, with the county reserving to cancel on six-months notice and pay the city the appraised value of the property. The property will be maintained at city expense and the city will pay inspection station employes. Failure of the city to operate the station as prescribed will result in a 30-day period in which to correct the violation and cancellation of the contract upon failure to do so.

Youth Center Still Wants You There

The summer program for youngsters and adults as well is now underway at the Coral Gables Youth Center, 400 Anastasia Ave. There are still openings in many of the classes offered by the center. They include art, crafts, sewing, drama and storytelling and other interesting subjects available to [all?] age groups 6-12 and 12 through teens. Sunday evenings from 7 to 10 are set aside as family archery night. Instruction is available to children and parents. All equipment is furnished by the center. From 7 to 10 p.m. Mondays, family gym night is held which includes volleyball, ping pong and exercises. Also on Monday evenings instruction is given in Mah Jongg. All of these programs are free to members of the youth center. Non members may participate for a nominal fee. More information may be obtained by telephoning the center at HI 8-2567.

Metro Re-Elects Bob Haverfield

Metro Commissioner Robert M. Haverfield of Coral Gables has been re-elected chairman of the Board of County Commissioners. Haverfield, who lives at 526 San Antonio Ave. is one of three Metro commissioners from Coral Gables. The others are Winston W. Wynne, a former city commissioner, and Dr. Jack H. Beckwith, M. D.

Dunmire...Motor-Doctor To Many With Expert Service, Best Equipment

After the tune-up, the Analyzer once again is attached to the engine to assure the accuracy of the adjustments. Other latest equipment includes a 1956 model John Bean Visualiner for wheel alignment. From a mirror beside the auto wheel, two circles of light reflect on a calibrated chart, showing exactly how far the wheel is out of line. Variations from 1/32" to 4" can be registered with the highest degree of accuracy. This eliminates the need for time consuming measuring on this job. Each car is corrected to the manufacturer's specifications. A Stewart Warner Wheel Balancer also is used on wheel work. All the latest equipment is of no use, if the mechanic does not know his business, too. Dunmire is the conscientious type who makes sure that he knows what he is doing before he starts a job. Beginning with training and work as a mechanic in Detroit, he added to his knowledge by taking training on airplane engines, when becoming a private pilot at Wayne, Mich. Always alert to new developments, Dunmire has added to his knowledge in many ways. He is a graduate trainee of the Carter Carburetor School, the Sun Electric Training School in Detroit, the modern Engine Tune-up Course of the Lindsey Hopkins School and other mechanical courses. As a member of the United Motors Service, he receives all current technical information on General Motors cars.
