Deaths in the Gables Dr. Lieberman, Deputy Director At Jackson

Services for Dr. John F. Lieberman, 70, deputy director of Jackson Memorial Hospital, were held Wednesday at Philbrick's Coral Gables Chapel. He will be buried in Clarksburg, West Va. Dr. Lieberman, a native of Paducah, Ky., lived at 2123 Granada Blvd. He died Monday after being in a coma since Dec. 4. He had been with Jackson Memorial Hospital since 1947 following service in World War II. Dr. Lieberman was a graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine and served in World War I as battalion surgeon. Between wars he served in various Army hospitals and in World War II with the professional division of the surgeon General's office as inspector of the Army hospitals in England. He was also chief surgeon for the armed forces in Iceland. At the time of his retirement he was chief of medical service at the Army-Navy hospital at Hot Springs, Ark. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his service. Dr. Lieberman was a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was also a Knight Templar and Shriner and member of the Coral Gables Country Club. Surviving is his wife, Mabel.

Mrs. W. M. Hall, Here 39 Years

Services for Mrs. Willie M. Hall, 80, of 2209 Segovia Blvd., who died Monday were held Wednesday at Philbrick's Coral Gables Chapel. She came here 39 years ago from Oakdale, Tenn., and was a member of University Baptist Church and Coral Gables chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are her daughter, Miss Ettamae G. Hall; a sister, Mrs. G. H. Hunt, both of Miami, and a brother, C. C. Gillespie, of Columbia, S.C.

Va. Burial For Miss Shaner

Miss Kathryn Virginia Shaner, 60, was buried in Lynchburg, Va., after services there. She died Jan. 3 in a local hospital. Miss Shaner, who came here 20 years ago, was a member of the Coral Gables Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Surviving are an aunt, Miss Mina Padgett; a niece, Mrs. Keene Tippins, of Lynchburg.

Mrs. Jordan, England Native

Services for Mrs. Ora E. Jordan, 61, a native of Manchester, England, were held at Reed-Gautier Funeral Home Friday afternoon. She died Jan. 2. Mrs. Jordan came from Manchester 14 years ago. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Elizabeth Ann Jordan; a mother, Mrs. Julia Lawless, and a sister, Mrs. Iona D. Henry, all of Coral Gables. Also, two sons John A. Jordan, of Charlotte, N.C., and Ronald G. Jordan, of Plainfield, N.J.; one grandson, Mitchell, also of Plainfield.

John Q. Dodd, Retired Farmer

Services for John Quincy Dodd, 84, who lived with his daughter, Mrs. Duicie J. Machamer, 1518 Mantua Ave., were held Jan. 4 at Gerhardt Funeral Home. Mr. Dodd, who was buried at Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, died Jan. 2. A retired farmer, Mr. Dodd came here 10 years ago from Cleveland. Other survivors are another daughter, Mrs. Orion Louizeauz, of Riverside, Calif.; two sons, J. Ward Dodd, of Kenlon, Tenn., and Odin B. Dodd, of Tucson, Ariz., four grand children and five great grandchildren.

Aid to Hurt Brother

Quick thinking on the part of a 13-year-old boy may have saved his younger brother from serious harm Sunday. Daniel Luchins, 13, son of Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Luchins, 419 Alminar Ave., applied a tourniquet and compress to young Jerry Luchin's right arm after it was deeply lacerated by broken glass. Mrs. Luchins said that Jerry, 9, fell through a glass panel door. Jerry was taken to Doctors' Hospital, where he was expected to be released by mid week.

SW Residents Help First Methodist Grow to 3,795

The First Methodist Church of Coral Gables welcomed a number of new members last month making the total 3,795. St. Mark's United Lutheran Church at Bird and LeJeune Roads had 20 visitors from eight states and Canada worshipping there on a recent Sunday. Visitors were from New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Ontario.
