Gustafson, CG Lawyer, Dies in Rio

A Coral Gables attorney and civic leader is reported to have drowned in Brazil under unknown circumstances. C. Wesley Gustafson, 52, is reported to have died in Rio de Janeiro on Feb. 18, according to a friend, attorney Frank C. Vernis. Gustafson had heart trouble, according to Vernis. Vernis said Tuesday that he had been notified by the U.S. State Department of Gustafson's death, but that he has been unable to learn the details. Gustafson's daughter, Jerry, 20, studying to be an airline stewardess in Chicago, is the only close survivor. The World War II navy lieutenant commander, had fought the encroachment of business into residential areas. His biggest fight was over the proposal to establish a Burdine's store on South Dixie Highway. C. W. GUSTAFSON

REACTIONS to ART

by ROBERT S. HURWITZ This year, local artist and art connoisseur Robert Draper, took control of the Mirell Gallery on Main Highway in Coconut Grove. A revue of his operation is in order. Draper is considered around town as firmly knowledgable in art history, trends and technique. His personal collection of art and artifacts is considerable. His broad sweep of interests carries his art verse from Tarascan to Modern. Mr. Robert, who has his Channel 2 T.V. program, has a real chance to impart some of this knowledge but he permits his too-talkative artist guests to dominate him ... they should not be allowed to. Mirell's walls are ever changing. The fast pace of new shows produces a lot of names, some significant, some of little importance. Draper's permanent for-sale collection of Chimu Carved Men, African Masks, Chinese Frescoes and thousand-year-old Tarascan Figures, are wonderful additions to our artifact scene. Nellie Bower, former art critic at the News, is wonderfully opinionated as Mirell's Director and Greeter. I dislike but understand the economic fact, that anyone with the price to rent, can stage an exhibit. Too many painters of little repute exhibit, leaving little opportunity for the deserving artists to gain exposure. A good change of pace, is Richard Veit's Photographic exhibit. His exciting effects in the field of creative photography, by the use of a new color process, are worth a look.

YOUR NERVES

By Dr. Melvin P. Deutsch Health is the result of Normal Nerve Function. Ill health, or disease is the opposite of health. It is a departure from a state of health, of body or mind. Characterized usually by a disturbance of function. When disease appears, it is evident that the nerve force causing health has diminished its activity. Something is interfering with the normal nerve current essential to normal structure and action. Nerve function operates through the nervous system which is widely distributed throughout the body enabling all organs to receive this nerve force so necessary to normal function and action. The cause of nerve interference directly concerns the modern Chiropractor because his science is founded upon the well proven premis that interference with normal nerve function is the primary cause of many types of illness. Diminished nerve function impairs normal action of organs and thus ill health results. The modern Chiropractor locates and removes interference with pinched nerves thereby restoring the normal nerve function employed by "nature" in making all cures and maintaining a state of health. Has your spine been thoroughly examined? It may well be that your spinal condition is the cause of your ill health. Your modern Chiropractor is a spine specialist. DR. MELVIN P. DEUTSCH 9601 Bird Rd.
