TRADE TALK

This week we introduce a new feature, Trade Talk. In this column you will find news about local business—its people, its plans and its accomplishments. We solicit material from our readers for this weekly feature. ★ ★ ★ City Commissioner George Wilson will be absent from next week's Commission meeting. He's going back to school. He'll be at Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. The classwork will last all week and concerns investment banking, the field in which Wilson works here as a stockbroker for Hayden Stone. It is the second of three years' work in the course. A week in residence is spent each year at Wharton. ★ ★ ★ Two Coral Gables residents have earned membership in the 1962 President's Club of the National Life Insurance Company of Vermont. Harold Abbott, 511 Almeria Ave., and Keith W. Loring, 730 University Dr., have also thus qualified for attendance at the club's educational conference at Hollywood Beach this month. ★ ★ ★ Victor P. Keay, secretary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's security committee and deputy head of NATO's security bureau in Paris, has resigned to become director of operations of The Wackenhut Corp., national security and investigative organization here. Keay has been security adviser to the U.S. Department of State assigned to NATO in Paris for the past five years. As director of operations, he will supervise the operating divisions and widespread projects of Wackenhut which now extend across the nation from coast to coast and throughout Puerto Rico. Keay, an attorney, formerly was a special agent of the FBI from 1934 until his retirement in 1956. He and his wife live at 4800 University Dr. ★ ★ ★ President Kennedy has invited Patrick S. Sirois, personnel and safety director for Holsum Bakers of Miami, to attend the President's Conference on Occupational Safety, to be held in Washington March 6-8. Sirois recently announced that the Holsum transport operators completed the entire year of 1961 without an accident on the roads and highways of Florida, accumulating over one-half million of safe miles. Holsum's entire fleet of over 200 company-owned and operated vehicles drove three and one-half million miles with an accident rate per 100,000 miles of vehicle operation of 1.33, which was within the rate established by similar bakery fleets reporting their experience to the National Safety Council. ★ ★ ★ Donald R. Dolan, 1258 Astoria Ave., has returned from Hartford, Conn., where he was graduated from a multiple line insurance course at The Travelers Insurance Companies. He will be representing The Travelers in the Boulton Agency, Inc., 580 NE 92nd St., Miami Shores. VICTOR KEAY
