City Sets Unit Cost On Sewer Project
The unit basis for assessment of property owners in the $487,000 sanitary sewer Districts 9 and 10 project has finally been decided. In an Emergency Ordinance passed last week, The City Commission declared that the unit would be 50 foot tracts. This applies where the land is under one ownership. In cases where a 25 foot tract is owned, 25 feet will be the applied unit. This is to be the basis where only one lateral connection to the main line is required. Where more than one lateral is necessary, the property will be assessed according to the number of laterals needed. At the time of installation, laterals will be run to all existing structures. The city will install additional connections, applying the same unit basis, when they become needed. As example, where a building on a 50 foot tract requires one lateral, the owner will be assessed for one unit. But if another building on a 50 foot tract calls for two laterals, the owner will be assessed for two units. This final plan is the product of several months debate over the most equitable unit to be used. Six plans were submitted to the Commission. Commissioner Joseph Murphy came up with the final proposal. City Attorney Ted Semple told the commission that he believed it to be an equitable basis for determining the apportionment of expenses between the property owners and the City.
Salvadore Net Stars Tops State
Coral Gables has three tennis champs and they're the best in the state. Ann Roberts and Bill Colson, representing Salvadore Park, and Mike Hamilton, with the Coral Gables Country Club, won state championship honors last weekend in St. Petersburg. Ann and Bill were both coached by Salvadore Park's tennis pro, Jack Cook, who, along with four other players, made the trip. Ann won both the singles and doubles. In the latter, she was teamed with a Miami Beach girl. Bill swept to victory in the doubles. He was teamed with a West Palm Beach lad.

Rader Plan Hearing Set For Sept.
The second public hearing on the Rader Report will not be held until fall, the City Commission decided last week. The Chamber of Commerce requested that the commission set the date for the Chamber's Coffee Club meeting, July 12. But the Commission, deciding that a hearing before Chamber members could not be considered a public hearing, denied the request. They recommended that the Chamber ask Arnold Eckoff, a partner in Rader Associates to present the Report to the Coffee Club on that date. The definite date of the public hearing is undetermined as yet, but will probably take place sometime in September. This was suggested because that vacationing residents will have returned by then and notices could be sent out to all residents at the same time that waste collection bills are sent out. The Rader Report was not too warmly received by residents at the first public hearing held earlier this month. The primary objection was that if followed, the report would turn Coral Gables into a "suburban metropolis." 134 Florida weekly newspapers with second class mailing permits have a total circulation in excess of 300,000 and a readership of more than one million.
WITH SUMMER HERE and the weather just right for swimming, these children are doing just that, learning to swim. They're just two of dozens of children who have enrolled in the swim classes, held each morning at the Coral Gables Country Club. Seen here is instructor Ray Fordyce.
