George R. Levie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer S. Levie, of 910 Andora Ave., is one of nine students at Emory University, named to the Dean's list in its School of Business Administration, during the spring quarter. George is now at home with his parents, and brother Bill, student at Coral Gables High School, for the summer vacation. * * * Joseph L. Carter, of 7300 Mindello St., who teaches at Southwest High School, is one of 12 "Asia Soceity Scholars" now attending the University of North Carolina in a special new summer program designed to spread knowledge of Asia in the public school system. * * * Geoffrey Stephan Joseph, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Joseph, of 3711 Anderson Rd., is a member of the fifth annual summer session of Stetson University's Early Admission and advanced studies program. He is one of 55 students enrolled. * * * Pvt. Bradley E. Purdom, USMC, son of Mrs. Maryalice Purdom of 233 Calabria Ave., has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., where training included drill bayonet training, physical conditioning, parades and ceremonies. * * * John Doughty Jr., a freshman at East Mississippi Junior College who is home for the summer vacation with his parents, at 1006 Capri St. has made the dean's list, announced at the end of the semester. * * * Alan R. Dynner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Dynner, of 1520 Ancona Ave., was one of 600 senior students graduating from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., June 6. A government honors major, Dynner was elected to Phi Beta Kappa oldest and highest honorary. He was active in the Glee Club, Pre-Law Club and the Dartmouth Outing Club. He was treasurer of the Jewish Life Council and of the Young Democrats. He was a 1958 graduate of Coral Gables High School. * * * Earl Law of 116 Sorolla Ave., who is president of the downtown Miami Lions Club and Mrs. Law attended the Lions Club International convention held in Nice, France June 20-24. The Laws joined 144 other conventionites in a chartered plane, flying both ways. Mrs. Law said they found 102 degrees of heat in Nice - and that the "natives" know nothing about air conditioning. SKOGSTAD Pfc. John C. Skogstad, USMC, son of Mrs. Katherine C. Skogstad, of 1249 Milan Ave., has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. During the final review ceremonies he received a meritorious promotion to his present rank for outstanding performance of duties during recruit training. He entered the service in November 1961, and is a graduate of the University of Miami. * * * Lewis A. Caputa, of 528 Al-cazar Ave., teacher of Spanish at Coral Gables High School was one of 200 teachers of foreign languages in universities, colleges and secondary schools attending an advanced placement conferencet in foreign languages June 21-23 at Smith College, Northampton, Mass. * * * Dr. Walter O. Walker, director of the University of Miami industrial chemical research laboratory, is presenting a paper this week to the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning meeting at Miami Beach. Working with Dr. Walker was Shevlin Rosen, UM research instructor, and S. L. Levy, an employe of the chemical firm. * * * James A. Henderson Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Henderson 7890 Sunset Dr., South Miami, was graduated with an LL.B June 14 at Harvard University's 311th commencement -one of approximately 3,000 seniors receiving academic degrees. * * * A surprise stork shower was given Mrs. Angela Loy Page, Wednesday night by the Ladies Auxiliary to Ray Renuart Post No. 5178 (Veterans of Foreign Wars) 45 Almeria Ave. Hostesses included Mrs. Albert Kelley and Mrs. Frank Baumann. Refreshments were served. * * * Mrs. Sadie Heifetz of Chicago, who is a cousin of the famed Jacob Heifetz, violin virtuso and world famous, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Charles R. Jacobson, of 408 Garienda Ave. Mrs. Heifetz will be here for two weeks and will jet to New York to attend the summer concerts and take a look at the Jean Dubeffet exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Al Sobel of 439 Aavona Ave., and their son, Peter are enjoying a seven day cruise to the British Isles including, Kingston and Haiti where they will see a "voodoo" show aboard ship. * * * George Bruce, son of Mrs. Beroge Bruce of 5118 Riviera Dr., has been approved for admission to the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary at Fort Worth, Tex., according to Dr. Robert E. Naylor, president. Mrs. Lucille Keathley, member of the Coral Gables Branch, League of American Pen Women will have an exhibit of her art work from July 1 through the 29 at the Mayfair Art Theatre. * * * The Jacob Dolingers, of 340 Candia Ave. have had a letter from their daughter, Myrna and her husband, Dr. Lawrence Wheatman who were wed, Sunday, June 17, that Dr. Wheatman has already started his internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City where the couple is residing. Among the out of town relatives here for the wedding were an aunt of the bride, Mrs. Cyla Trauner of Tel Aviv, Israel; Mr. and Mrs. Lew Bauderman, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Barnett, aunts and uncles of the bride from Memphis. Also cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dolinger of Columbus, Ohio and W. K. Altman of Chicago, Ill. * * * Judith H. Moore, of 1314 Milan Ave. received her bachelor of arts degree June 16 at Northwestern University's 104th commencement. * * * William Rafkind, of 541 Miller Rd. has been elected to the board of governors of the National Children's Cardiac Hospital (Miami) according to recent elections held. Joseph A. Garfield, 6510 Granada Blvd., Dr. Louis Lemberg, 5430 Riviera Dr., and George Okell Sr., 1245 Andalusia Ave., are other Gables residents serving on the board. * * * Robert Leonard Kuyper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard J. Kuyper, of 1411 Pizarro St., has been named to the Merit List of Emory at Oxford, Ga., for outstanding academic work during the preceding quarter. LT. WM. HARRISON Aviation Officer Candidate Don S. Jobson, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry M Jobson, of 911 Anastasia Ave., is undergoing pre-flight training at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, for the next 16 weeks. * * * Lt. W. L. Allen Harrison, of 218 Santillane Ave., is a member of the Jet Attack Squadron 741 (NARTU) Jacksonville, which is currently undergoing two weeks of active training duty at the Yuma Arizona, Marine Air Station. * * * Ens. Edwin C. Lunsford Jr., USN, son of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin C. Lunsford, of 1501 Sunset Rd., Coral Gables has reported for training as a naval aviator to the Naval Auxiliary Air Station, Whiting Field in Milton. Upon completion of the course, students report to the Training Squadron Five at Saufly Field, Pensacola, to qualify in landing aboard an aircraft carrier.
Mrs. Lewis Reappointed
Mrs. Weldon B. Lewis, 1502 Madrid St., has been reappointed by the Coral Gables City Commission to the Dade County Welfare Planning Council. The welfare council aids in planning and welfare service of the United Fund.
New Apartment For San Amaro
A new $55,000, 12-unit apartment building permit has been issued to owner Fred Snowman, 4801 San Amaro Dr., and will be located at 28 Antilla Ave. General contractor is Harold C. Wade, 835 SE 10th Pl., architect James Sampson, 9410 SW 60th Ter., and engineer W. G. Stephan, 1672 SW 22nd St., will construct the two-story building.
