Cartegena Plaza Facial Begins to Show Results

Through the cooperative efforts of many, the face of Cartagena Plaza in Coral Gables is to be subtly lifted. When alterations now in progress have been completed, the little park will resemble a typical Latin American plaza — a fitting reminder of the city's ties with her sister-city of Cartagena in Colombia. In place on the plaza since last fall is a monumental reproduction of a pair of old shoes — a replica on a reduced scale of a statue in Cartagena with sentimental overtones for natives of that South American city. Recently the City Commission added a semi-circular stone bench to the scene, which provides an architectural feature. Now the magic touch of good landscaping is to complete the picture. Under the gentle prodding of Lucile Neher, immediate past president of the Coral Gables People - to - People Program, gifts of time, talent and materials have been contributed by: Jonothan Seymour, well-known landscape architect, who drew up the landscaping plans, Harley Pittman, Public Service Director of the City, who detailed needed plant materials, and Joe Shaw of Shaw Nursery, who is collecting plant materials donated by ten nurseries of the Greater Miami area.
