Tax-Free Bond Buys Are Subject

Goodbody & Co. will sponsor a tax exempt seminar on Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 15 and 17 at 8 p.m. at the Coral Gables Country Club. This seminar will be by invitation only. Two partners of Goodbody & Co., A. M. Seaber, regional partner, and James F. Reilly, partner in charge of the Bond Division in New York City, will be participants. Seaber will speak on Jan. 15 assisted by C. T. McCreedy, investment manager, and D. H. Ludeman, manager of the municipal department of the Miami Office of Goodbody. They will conduct a discussion on the elementary factors of tax exemption. Reilly will lead the discussion on Thursday, further explaining the tax exempt market, which is of interest to many individuals of the Coral Gables area. He will also talk on the subject of the "Money Market and What It Means to the Businessman." There will be a question and answer period in the two sessions of the seminar. William L. Shaw, manager of the Gables Office of Goodbody, will be in charge of the arrangements.

All Bicycles Would Be Licensed Under Proposal Made to Metro

A proposal calling for the inspection and licensing of all bicycles is in the hands of County Manager Irving G. McNayr for study. The proposed ordinance, recommended by the South Florida Chapter, American Society of Safety Engineers was presented to the Metro Commission Dec. 18 by R. H. Epstein, chairman. Epstein also called for a program of instruction for bike riders about the proper riding. Metro has an ordinance on the books pertaining to bicycles and their use, but is seldom, if ever, enforced. The Guide last year in a front page story pointed out the dangerous practices that have led to 21 fatalities in several hundred reported and many unreported accidents involving bicycles since 1960. The law requiring bicycles to be ridden like all motor vehicles was explained and it was pointed out how misinformation about safe riding habits and the law is given out by parents and teachers. Highway Patrol officials pointed out at the time that mechanically unsafe bikes and children lacking mature judgment are largely responsible for accidents.

The Bards Open Store

A music store more like a music center is what Mrs. Brennay Bard has established at Dadeland Shopping Center. The store, with soundproof studios and seating for 100, has been made available to music groups for meetings. Mrs. Bard, a music and dancing teacher and night club floor show producer during Miami's club heyday during the early 1940's, now teaches piano, organ and string instruments. The Bards, he's Cmdr. Rudolph Bard, USN ret., came here from Charleston, S.C., in 1939. They now live at 6617 Tarrega St. in Coral Gables.
