Residents Recall '62 Events
By DOROTHY COLLIN Women's Editor With the approach of 1963 people began the annual ritual of thinking up New Year's resolutions, most of which will be broken long before 1964 rolls around. But people think back at the turn of the year too, and recall various events of 1962 which made the past year memorable. Mrs. Robert Altemus, 6600 SW 128 St., said her most vivid memories of 1962 were working with the American Youth Exchange which deals with teen-age exchange students from North and South America. The recent Cuban crises and the way it was handled were the most memorable events of 1962 for Mrs. Charles C. Baake, 746 Jeronimo Dr. Mrs. E. S. Emerson, 3016 Alhambra Circle, said the most significant thing in 1962 for her was her trip this summer to the United Federation of Doll Clubs convention in Buffalo, N.Y. She said she took her 16-year-old daughter with her and she liked the North East so well that she returned there to attend school this year in Maine. During the trip to the convention, Mrs. Emerson said they visited her son in New Hampshire and visited Niagara Falls. Another trip, one through the Canadian Rockies and the Western part of the United States in August and September, was what Mrs. C. C. Hagner, 7400 Ponce De Leon, said she would remember most about 1962. She and her husband saw the first snow fall of the winter and the beauty of the scenery and the snow impressed her tremendously, she said. Mrs. John Irwin, 327 Majoriea Ave., said the big event in 1962 for her was being elected state president of the National League of Penwomen. She was also made associate editor of the organization's magazine. The prom-time rush for the corsages she makes was memorable for Mrs. Rita Oglesby, 2869 SW 32nd Court. Mrs. Oglesby raises orchids and fashions corsages to sell high school and college boys. Mrs. Hiram Rose, 130 Antiquera Ave., said 1962 was a good year, the best in several years in the Cold War and in her own life, and this made it memorable.
